So after nearly 3 years without one, I got a car

For 3 years I've been a proud non-car owner. I'm more conscious of my carbon footprint and I save a shit ton of money by not buying petrol, insurance, warrant of fitness, registration, tyres and all the other bills that come with owning a car. Not to mention the great exercise I get from walking or skateboarding 10+km a day.

So my mum flew down to visit me and because my Dad is doing really well at work she insisted that they buy me a car. I declined but she wouldn't take no for an answer. Went to a couple of cheapo dealerships and ended up with a 1995 VW Polo 1.6l. I pick it up on Monday after the cam belt gets changed.

I really didn't need this car, but I guess it would be nice to have for my photography, allowing me to get out to the mountains and lakes more often. And it means I don't necessarily have to skateboard to university at sub zero temperatures (even though I still will).

Okay, I never said anything about global warming guys. I mentioned my carbon footprint. Well here's a PSA for you: carbon in the atmosphere sucks, whether you believe in global warming or not. Pollution is shit and I was proud to be doing my bit to curb it. Why would anyone give me shit for making a conscious effort to make the world just a tiny bit better?

Ignore them bro, they are jealous you have wheels, and what do they have ... roller skates?

btw-the act of owning the car doesn't make you a polluter. It's how you use them.

Hah not a chance, I've done the project car thing and I intend to do it again in the future, but it won't be with a 1995 European car. Australian cars are really my thing as far as projects go. My last project was a 1972 Ford XA Falcon with a 302 Cleveland which I built from the ground up (the engine, not the car). Right now cars are not my priority.

Okay, seriously, congrats to the OP for getting a car. Welcome to the modern transportation era.

However:
Engine mods + body kit + stereo + 14 y/o hatchback = 14 y/o hatchback. I don't care how much money you dump into a 1.6L engine, you are not getting anything useful out of it.

You're right, the car has potential. The potential to move the OP from point A to point B. No body kit is going to make that car sexy. But that's not the point, is it? It's a method of transportation, which it does effectively and fuel-efficiently.

Don't forget the Type-R stickers. They're good for about 50hp each and instant poontang.
