My dads computer broke down, so what ended up happening was, I sold him my old custom gaming rig for cheap to use, and pitched in a bit more money and bought myself a Gateway for 450 bucks. I slapped in my 8800 GTS into it, gave my dad the old 6800 GT, and I must say I am happy with my ghetto upgrade solution.

Im 24 now and I don't play as much games as I used to, nor do I care for having aftermarket heatsinks, overclockability, performance components etc. This systems specs are descent and it plays Bioshock like a champ.

What do you guys think? Not bad?

Btw I am still getting a Triple SLI system one way or the other when Diablo 3 comes out, this is just temporary replacement for my old 3800 X2 rig :D

No shame it was a pretty good deal. I have seen a few people go this route. Especially when Dell had there special of a Q6600 box with a 19-20" monitor for $599, its hard to beat.

Why? Did someone leak the recommended system requirements?

Blizzard seems to be able to make great looking games that runs fast on moderate systems at the time the game is released. Other game devs may go for every last bit of computational power to wring more eye candy out of their game, but Blizzard seems to do it by having talented graphic artists.

In any case, if you want Tri-SLI... go for it! You don't need an upcoming game as an excuse. ;)

Totally dissagree with you in this regard. When Diablo II came out, nothing ran that game right (hyperbole) and to make matters worse, it was locked in at 640x480 (800x600, years later) resolution. I remember a good buddy of mine playing the game and I thought it looked like ass, not to mention the extreme chopiness of the game. He had a beefy rig at the time, too. I couldn't believe a game could look that bad, yet be released in that time frame. But again, Diablo was always about the game-play, not the graphics. Still, Diablo II failed miserably in the graphics department.

WoW is another game. When it came out, even my 9600 Pro couldn't handle it without some major hiccups and it didn't look that great for the GPU power it required. They do very well with their art, but so do *most* games that use 'cartoon' type models. Why does it almost always look good? Because it is 'art' and isn't trying to portray a realistic looking entity. WoW would fall flat on its face if it even attempted to render something like EQ2 style graphics, which look half-way realistic.

Anyway, they make great games, but they are far from 'effecient' at least when dealing with the titles they have released in the past and the only other 3D Game that made to my knowledge was Warcraft 3, which looked decent for the time, but also had a 'campy' artistic feel. The rest were 2D Sprite based games and those typically ran pretty well on most PCs.

I picked up a Dell just a few months ago and I hadn't purchased pre-built PC in probably 14 or so years, but the prices that these OEM's can give are just flat-out, outstanding. It is actually cheaper in many cases to purchase your gaming rig from a main OEM than it is to built your own. Even more so for those who are inexperienced at building. Enjoy your quest for Tri-Sli!

Yup I agree, Diablo 2 ran like fuckin ass on most systems. And Diablo 3, although it might run on the systems of today, I guarentee you it won't be as silky smooth as on a system bought when it is released. Plus I don't know what it is, but as a game progresses and patches are released, it becomes choppier and choppier, it's like they are adding more textures and shit to the game, WoW is a perfect example.

You would be suprised how fast Diablo 3 will run in an 8 player game with a witchdoctor that has 40 summons...and everyone else casting mad spells and stuff popping, lol.

As for the systems, I agree, they are cheaper. I configured my systems specs on a local pc builder site and it came out to over 700 bucks, and everything I selected was pure ghetto, windows vista was like the most expensive thing there.

I myself am running a refurb'd Dell XPS 410. I upgraded it a bit, but in the end, I could never have built it for less.

I felt the urge to upgrade my video card, so I slapped in a new Radeon 4870 into the Gateway. Bad ass, almost diden't fit. I also took out the 300 watt psu and swapped it with a 625 I had lying around. I must say I have quite the performance system now. Bioshock runs like a beast in full detail at 1680x1050. Also it's been a long time since I have used ATI, is it just me or is the image quality better on ATI cards over Nvidia? I even played warcraft 3 on it and the images look so much sharper then what I remember my GTS rendered.

If anyone wants pics of my project let me know I will take and post!
