So, a user needs a new keyboard because...

She was using a can of air to blow out the dust... And it took about a minute to realize it was WD-40! 😀

Oddly enough, the KB still works and she's still using it! I'd think the keys would be too slippery to use! 😉

LOL. Must be a woman thing. I've seen my wife spray carpeting with some kind of cleaner with bleach in it, thinking it was fabreeze. Also I've seen her dump a bunch of bleach onto colored clothes thinking it was vinegar.

MY god father's wife has really bad eye sight and used WD40 one morning rather than the spray to get rid of static. She literally sprayed oil all over her dress 😀

LOL, I've almost made the same mistake, honestly. We have a bunch of cans of air in the office with a can of silicone lubricant nearby...the can has similar colors, same size & nozzle. I've almost picked it up mistakenly several times.

At my brother in law's place he has two white bottles side by side. Same size, same shape. One's hand cleaner, one is air tool oil.

...oil doesn't do a good job of cleaning grease off your hands.

Bolded for great significance.

If I'd had one less cup of coffee on those occasions, I'd be typing on the world's best lubricated keyboard. 😉

That reminds me of the time I got a call of one of our users who's keyboard had stopped working.

I asked her a bunch of questions including "Did you spill anything on it?", to which she replied "No"

So I take another keyboard down to her, take out the old one, put in the new one... works like a charm.

Chat for a min, proceed to wrap the cord around the old keyboard, tuck it under my arm, and proceed to get wet from the water that was spilling out of the keyboard.

Nothing was said by either of us, but I think I gave her the glare of death... lol

Ya know...all I ask is that you be honest with me... is that too much to ask. 🙂

WD-40 is safe to use on electronics so it will work fine, just a bit slippery to type on LOL. 😀

Mouse must have been squeaky....

(that's happened here - the thumbwheel squeaked, so it got oiled...)😕

I had a user bring in a computer to me that wasn't working, and it stunk so bad I was gagging. Turned out her cat had pissed on it. I swapped it out, and stuck the old one in a big plastic bag and stuck in the storage room until our salvage vendor got it. I bet the person that opened that one was surprised.

I was moonlighting at a Circuit City doing PC repair, guy brought in a PC to be cleaned that had, in addition to enough hair to make another cat and enough dust to choke a moose... a nest of cockroaches. It went in a bag and we called the guy and told him he had until the end of the day to come back, get a refund and pick his PC up.

Wow was she like 5 years old? How did she figure you wouldn't find the water in the keyboard? lol some people are weird.

Apart from being blind, do these people have no sense of smell?

That's the first thing I thought of. That stuff has a very particular odor.

Not only that but the can is bright blue with WD-40 in large, bright letters.

I work at a bank, and we had a sewer line in the floor above explode. And douse some computers... Many of us techs are scavengers, but none of us would touch that $hit..... Literally. 😉

I actually tried, because I didn't see it happen and they threw the computers in the back room sealed in bags. They said that one of them wasn't hit very badly, but as soon as got close, I caught a whiff... NO THANKS! 😀

lol, this reminds me of back when I was living with my folks when I was younger. I had a friend spend the night and late one night he went to use the bathroom. He came back and said, "my hands smell like bleach..." I realized that he had used the small bottle of Dawn that had bleach in it that was right next to the sink. we had two bottles on the counter of the bathroom -- one of bleach and the other for hand soap, the bleach on the left of the head and the soap on the right. i guess he didn't turn on the light and grabbed the wrong bottle. he freaked out after I realized what happened because his hands were burning.... good times.

edit: my mom did the bleach thing to keep some in the bathroom for cleaning. there was no malicious intent.
