Snowboarders, recommend me a good snowboard...

K2, Ride, Burton, Forum are good boards. There's cheaper ones but they won't last quite as long (edges fall apart, delaminate quicker).

Don't spend a ton of money unless you know for sure he'll stick with it. My first was a K2 Dart for $300 and it would've lasted perfectly fine through 5 years and more if some fvck wouldn't have stolen it.

for beginner...anything willl work..try to get something heightwise around his chin area...then for brand to get...it really depends on how much you want to spend. a good brand is always burton...i just got a new board this year...(last years Burton: DOMINANT 156) 🙂 🙂 🙂 can't wait till ride it...besides burton you can check out. Forum, M3, Ride, K2, Salomon, GNU, NW. basically just dont go for a board that is really heavy.

starting off it really doesnt matter...hes not actually going to be carving or anything serious like that...he can start off with a pretty crappy board and see how he likes it...basically like any sport...its 90% skills 10% equipment...or around there.

models dont really matter. just go for the right length. prob freestyle/freeride board will be good if he's learning.

Option and Ride both kick ass. Burton and forum are good stuff too.

Plus, Option is made in Canada 😉

get him something a little soft and not directional if he's just starting. A stiff board gives good control when you're cruising, but if you're new and on a stiff board you will wipe a million times. (besides.. he's probably more into tricks than crusing)

and if you want to go backcountry.. get something a little fatter.

It really depends what hes going to do with it.

i say he shoudl rent a couple times before he finds out what he likes. some local shops, like the one in my town will rent the boards, and the fees for the rental will actually go towards a purchase of a new board at the shop. lot better deal than one my friend got. dropped 600ish on a board boots/binder set and didn't touch it for 3 seasons. later sold it to me for 350ish
