Right now, i have a pair of k2 clicker highbacks on my board, but was thinking about switching to flow bindings (convenient like my clickers, but snow won't get stuck as much in them)... but i was wondering about the pros and cons of them...

I haven't seen the flow step-ins...but I switched from clickers (non-HB) two seasons ago to normal bindings and I hate it. I'm going back to clickers next year. Any more info on the flows?

Personally I tried on some flows earlier this season while at the shop. Didn't like the feel of the hiback at all. But thats just me.

Also, I would never ever ever ever (you get the point) use Clickers. They are the worst step in system out there. Constantly getting screwed up due to ice and snow. If you want step ins of that sort, look at Switch and then Burton in that order.

I tried Burton's last season (Custom Si plus Drivers) and went back to straps this season (Drake F60's and Salomon Malamutes). I'll never go back to step ins, you loose way too much power and control. But with Flows this might not be a problem.

i haven't really had any problems with my clicker hb's, i just have to use a stick or something to poke out snow when it gets stuck on the boot... it's more of a snow on the boot problem than a snow on the clickers... and because i used to be a skier, the system is easy for me...

Oh well, I tried the step-ins after a few years of "ooh thats cool, no more bending down after the lift ride up". But I found my riding got worse with them. Went back to straps, found my riding improved quite a bit, boots are a lot more comfortable with a much wider selection, and I have no problem taking 10 seconds to strap in.

Anyway, how many pro snowboarders out there use step-ins? :D

But hey, whatever works for you.

A bit more to this.

I see a lot rental shops with Clickers but very few people with their own gear using it.
I do see a lot of people with the Flow bindings and with their own gear.
The Burton (two prongs coming into the boot), Switch (metal bar running lengthwise on each side of the boot) and Ride (one bar going the width of the boot) systems are the ones I see on the hill the most (13 days last year, 16 so far this year). Ride and Switch are the more common as they have been around longer than Burton.
Of course, strap ins beat them all.

I'm a novice/intermediate snowboarder and I use Flows. I used them when i first started to board and they worked great.

I bought Burton Custom SI's with Drivers. They were ok I guess. I don't use the SI's anymore. I bought a pair of used FLows from the ski shop up in Sutton, Quebec for a very good price. Besides, the Custom SI's broke on me. I got them repaired and I'm gonna sell them. Anyone interested? ;)

I learned how to snowboard on Flow bindings, and they're really easy for beginners to learn on. I've only used their rental model, but even then they can keep your feet locked down pretty well with not much effort off the lift. But as you start getting better, I fely the full-face strap that Flows use don't give the support in the right areas as regular strap bindings can give.

Right now, I own a pair of Burton step-ins (which i recently shattered after landing a jump, but that's another story), and I had to rent a pair of strap bindings ('02 Burton Mission Dark) as a temporary replacement. I have to say the strap bindings do feel alot better, and i felt i had a much quicker response when carving, especially going at high speeds, than Flows, and much better than with the Burton step-ins.

My gripe with straps is when i get off the lift. Most ratchets i've tried (tho i haven't tried many top-quality models) piss me off considerably. I'm a lazy boarder when it comes to this, so I went with the step-ins. The Flows are a good mix of support and convenience I'd say. That's my 2 cents.

Anyone have suggestions to strap bindings that have easy to use ratchets? I've gotten suggestions of Burton C14, Drakes, or Tech 9s...

Flow bindings are pretty decent. I personally like the original binding style, and I currently have salomon sp5 bindings and I love them, but all depends on the person. Flow bindings are pretty decent though, but fairly expensive for a good set.

hmmm, i guess i'll have to go try on a pair and see how they feel.... nord, i get ur point... the clickers that i have are actually getting loose, but that's cuz i've been lazy and haven't really adjusted them... btw, i'm not looking for bindings that'd be great for freestyling... i'm more of an alpine, point the board almost straight down the diamond runs kind of boarder.... speaking of which, i need a helmet... anyone make an xxl helmet? (i've got a big head)

slikmunks, thats pretty much what I do.

I ride a Never Summer Premier T5 @ 165 (last years model) with Drake F60s and Salomon Malamutes (both this years). I tend to ride fast and hard. Just started hitting the park, no pipe yet. Also do a bit of trees, but my board is too big for it (my 96-97 K2 Zep @ 157 would be better for it). But give me a nice black diamond and I'll rip it up.

As such, I found going to straps gave me so much more power and control over my edges, especially during turns.

See...I switched over from an all K2 (dart 140, clickers, and yak boots I think) setup from when I started to an all Burton setup (a clash 153, freestyle bindings (strap-in), and moto boots) season before this one. I'm not sure where the problem is, but I've been having major control problems. Also, most of my friends ski...so with the strap-ins, everyone usually ends up waiting. I may try the clicker HBs next season...I never had a problem with snow clog when using them before...so we'll see. My advice is to stick with the step-ins, but that's just me.

Yeah, I'm pretty much the only boarder in my group (one other boarder, but he doesn't go often). But the group I go with has pretty much gotten used to me taking 10 seconds to strap in. It usually takes that long for them to decide what trail to go on.

If you go step in, I strongly suggest checking out Switch's system. It really is the best of the bunch.

Heh, if you want Burton's I can sell you a large Custom Si Binding from last year. Used 13 days of riding.

The boots I had for it are the Driver Si's size 11.

The Burton is okay and I had very little problems with the binding mechanism. Again, the reason I went back to straps was the comfort of the boots and the power/control of the edges.

PM me if you are interested.

I started with Clickers. I think the boots I had just sucked tho. I've got fairly large calfs (thank the samoan heritage) and the boots just could not be tightened very much. Feet were coming out of my boots all the time.

That was the first time I boarded.

In that next week, I bought some FL-11's off a shop on eGay (outside of the site too! what a taboo!). Cost only $65!!! I love them. Matched it up with a pair of Burton Driver boots which are comfortable as hell. I feel I get a ton of support with them. I put them on pretty tight, simply because of my calf "problem" and it solves it for me.

Take it with a grain of salt tho, as I haven't used strap bindings, and i've only boarded twice, and I've got big calfs....lol

My setup is:

Arbor Woodie 156
2002 Flow FL-11's
2002 Burton Drivers
