Snowboard question

I like to snowboard just for fun at the hills in my town. I might go to an acutal resort or whatever once a year. So last year I bought a cheap used snowboard, and I bought new boots and bindings.
The bindings are Switch, but they are the step-in kind (I don't know which model, but they were the cheapest ones 🙂 )
So I was going off a little jump last year and I fell/landed on the tip of my snowboard. Ever since then, it's been extremely hard to get one of the boots to snap in to the binding.
So for christmas I am thinking about asking for normal strap-in bindings, but will my step-in boots work with them?

Cliffs - Do step-in boots work with strap-in bindings?
 
Depends on the step-in. I have Clicker step-ins and they work fine with strap bindings. IIRC, Switch have their step-in locks on the sides of the boots which might be too big or interfere with the strap binding.
 
If they're switch X, some of the stepins have external screws to remove the step-in mounts. So in that case, they would work, otherwise, you could have some trouble. You can get a cheap pair of boots for $50 in SnowJam or Solomons....just look around.

As for the Switch bindings you have, see if you bent something or just need to oil the springs. They are notorious for being difficult to get on. The biggest complaint is when snow gets packed on the binding, the boot won't seat properly. It's almost impossible to get the boots on them without stepping down with all your weight sometimes. Just keep trying....it may eventually pop in, unless they are severely bent or there's something wrong with the boot.

You can probably buy replacement switch bindings.....they are usually a lot more available than the boots... Most manufacturers stopped making them 3-4 years ago.
 
What was the reason the manufacturers stopped making step ins? For a while there, it seemed like all bindings/boots were going in that direction. I still have Burton strap in bindings that pre-date all of the step-in variety...but I was just looking to replace them recently and noticed that ALL bindings were back to strap in...what's the deal?

Ok well I just tried them for the first time since last winter, and I guess they step in fine. Just FYI the bindings are Swith QuickN and the boots are Vans N-Type.

i just can't trust step ins going down the slopes 20-30+ miles or hitting jump and hope that the thing doesn't fall off on u

I dunno I ride 90% freestyle and I've never had a problem with step-ins after a jump or trick, even if I ate some serious ******.
