Snow Tires

my all-season dunlop are all worn out and really could use new set of tires. It's snowing now and maybe next weekend, but then it'll be warm and nice for summer tires.
so, my problem is, should i get snow tires now or just wait till mid-march/early april and buy myself summer tires?
BTW, i have A4 quattro ... w/o snow tires i cant have fun in the snow

If you've gone this long without the snow tires, I'd just get normal all seasons to replace them. Snow tires have a relatively short lifespan and deteriorate quickly when it get's warmer. Winter tires are meant to be used as a second set of tires. You put them on some cheapie wheels and store them during the warmer seasons.

i'm going to get some new set of wheel of high-performance summer, if i do get the winters it'll be stored in the garage for next winter by mid-march.

In that case, I'd recommend Blizzaks. Just don't use them in dry weather, since the wear out very quickly because of their soft compound.

How do you know if your tires are worn?

If you've got the money, then get winters, and then get high performence summers.

Either way while you have your summers on you won't wear out your winters, and vice versa, so your not losing except for what it cost you to install them.

If you have money, and don't mind investing a little. Buy a 2nd set of rims for your snow tires, and when summer comes along, you change your rims and tires. That way for the next few years, or however long you have your vehicle, you'll save money on tires, because snow tires should last you a couple seasons. Try ebay to find some old Audi rims, people who mod their car try and recoop some of their losses by selling their old rims. That way, your winter rims won't look out of place.

i'll put winters on my stock wheels, then maybe a set of BBS or OZ with summers for dry weather

BTW, how much is Bridgestone Blizzak at local Firestone?? they dont have the price online.

Check www.tirerack.com I ordered a set of 4 blizzaks and 4 16" steelies, I think I payed around 475 or so shipped. They came mounted and balanced, took me maybe 30 minutes to put them on, and the difference between them and my stock all seasons was night and day. I would highly recommend blizzaks, worth every penny.

get regular tires and the just put some snow chains on!!

i so want to put snow chains on my car but alas, breathing is illegal in new jersey so i doubt i would get away with snowchains.

You do know that snow chains are limited to 20mph and under, right? Also, some cars cannot have chains mounted because of clearance issues.
