Fiance's mom lives in S. Philly (worst place to find a parking spot) and we were driving around the other day looking for a parking spot.
We came across a couple, but they had chairs and trashcans in them. I wanted to move them because I think it's illegal to do that especially if it's in front of one's house on street. I decided to not move it thinking whoever left it might do something stupid to my car.

Now, I'm at my apt and there's no parking anyways. i got a spot, but I have to leave to pick her up from work later. grrrr

While its probably not legal, I think ethically you should let them keep the spot. Someone spent a ton of time digging all the snow out of that spot for their car. I think they are justified in keeping it for themself after all the work they put in to do it. Just imagine if you spent half an hour clearing a spot, went out for an hour, then came back and saw another car parked in there.

I agree, but I'm glad I live in a city that knows how to deal with snow, so we don't have that issue to deal with. We get cars moved to plow curb to curb. It gets inoperables off the street every time they need to plow, so that's a plus.

You could move it, and probably be right with the law.
But I'd hate to see what your car looks like when you get back.

I live in Philly too. My car is buried by plows and I am about to embark on digging it out. The car is completely covered and I have to dig through a solid wall of snow around 3 and 1/2 feet high that extends approximately 4 feet before I can get to the door. We're litrerally talking tons of snow. When I'm done and I pull out to go somewhere I'm am putting a chair or something in my spot. Is it legal? probably not. Do I expect that my space, that I cleared for my car to be there when I come back? Hell yeah. If it's not, I guess I'll be guilty of commiting two crimes in one day.

Happens all the time in philly. spots are precious commodities, specially with snow like this. Yes it's illegal, and yes, there's always that chance you'd come back to find your car slashed or keyed. Doesn't happen a lot, but it sucks when it does so... If it's the person that lives there, and dug their car out and wants to be able to park in front of their own house it's cool i think.

I thought living in an apt complex would be cool because you dont have to worry about plowing the driveway and stuff.
well, the property manager lives in Jersey and he hasnt returned anyone's pages!!! We havent seen a plow truck in a few
days, and everyone is in the same boat. We're fighting for parking spots and once we get out we can't even get out of
the driveway!!! Who can we contact? Our lease says they are responsible for snow removal, but the "circle" looks like a
side street!

I drove by other apt complexes and their driveways are cleared!!!

It might be illegal, but there's not much you can do about it unfortunately.
