My wife's 2008 MBP has been running slow for a while. So I did a drive speed test and the results stunk. So I bought her a new 1TB western digital drive, but when I start the install it hangs at 28 minutes.

I tried starting over. I also tried splitting the drive into 2 500GB volumes. No luck.

Is the laptop itself dying?

Did you do a fresh HFS+ format on the drive?

Might want to run a disk check on the laptop drive.

Another option is to rip the install disc to an image and restore it to a bootable USB stick. Maybe there's an issue with the disc/drive during install.

Thanks. It finally went sometime overnight. Now the 10.6.3 to 10.6.8 update keeps failing due to server connection. So that's great.

What prompted this was my wife's drive testing super slow in BlackMagic Disk Speed. I'm hoping now it's just a bad drive and not something somewhere else along the data bus.

I was just reformatting/reinstalling on some older Minis and ran into the exact same problem.

I downloaded the update on a fast computer, put it on a flash drive and updated the other minis.

I found the issue. I will post in another thread so people will see it.
