We're getting pummeled by a little weather here today. It was bright, sunny and gorgeous a couple days ago. Guess that was just a spring tease or something. We were told as much as three inches my hit during the night. When I woke up, I was happy to see it was just a mixture of rain and snow. Went to the grocery store through about 2" of slush.

Now, sitting in the house, I keep hearing what sounds like branches hit the roof. I'm used to that, but not the mega quantity of thumps that keep pounding away. I keep looking out the window to see if tree debris is piling up, but not seeing an unusual amount. So, I ventured outside to see WTF is going on. Still no sign of branches hailing down. The back roof is pocked with small craters, and it turns out that clumps of water and snow are creating them. Some small, and some pretty large. It's like we're being pelted with slush balls! Is that considered sleet? Sheet! :Q

Weather Advisories: A FLOOD WATCH will go into effect for all of eastern New York and western New England at 7am on Saturday and continue through 6pm on Sunday. Low pressure over western Tennessee tonight will intensify as it slowly moves into the Northeast this weekend. This storm will bring more torrential rains to eastern NY and western New England with widespread totals ranging from 1"-2" with between 4" to 5" likely in some terrain favored areas of the Catskills and western New England. Widespread flash flooding of small streams and creeks is expected beginning Saturday afternoon and continuing into Sunday. Moderate to potentially major main stream river flooding is also expected along the Mohawk, Hudson, and Schoharie Creek, in NY, the Housatonic in Berkshire and Litchfield counties, the Otter Creek in Rutland county, VT, to name a few. The main stream rivers take longer to respond to heavy rain and runoff which means the worst of the river flooding in many cases will not occur until Sunday. The heaviest rain with the storm should wind down Saturday night, however, additional showers and possibly a few t'storms will continue through the day Sunday. ***IF YOU LIVE IN A FLOOD PRONE AREA, NOW IS THE TIME TO PREPARE SHOULD SIGNIFICANT FLOODING MATERIALIZE THIS WEEKEND.*** It continues to appear that the storm will track well west of the Capital Region and only move very slowly. This track and speed suggests that air cold enough to support a changeover from rain to snow in the Adirondacks will not make it in until Sunday night. And it is unclear how much precipiation will be leftover by Sunday night to change to snow. There remains a chance that some accumulation could occur in the Adirondacks Sunday night into Monday.

Sunset: 6:23 PM
High: 49°

Tonight: ***FLOOD WATCH***. Rain, heavy at times. Windy.
Wind: SSE 15-25 mph with higher gusts especially in the higher terrain
Low: 46°

Tomorrow: ***FLOOD WATCH***. Showers likely with a t'storm possible. Mostly cloudy conditions, although some breaks of sunshine will be possible.

How about a sound file, before I amble back outside:The hum is the camera motor. It's dead quiet, so every little thing is picked up. The sharp clacking is my keyboard and the creaking is my chair. All the dull thumps, bumps and clunks are snow gobs!

I figured it out! The snow builds up in the high branches of the trees, eventually big chunks of this buildup get tossed out when the wind kicks up. Hey, it may seem obvious now, but it was driving me crazy!
