First he mass-mailed the Rachel Arlington story (10 year old girl who has cancer, AOL and ZDnet are tracking the fwds: to pay 32 cents a forward).

Then the Stella Awards (frivolous lawsuits, etc..)

Co-Worker claims "Oh...well, I thought they were fake, but I liked the stories."

Can't stand fwd:'s....

I always check Snopes when I get a forward. It's just so darn satisfying to "Reply all" and let people know they're gullible jackasses. :D

Snopes should come up with some sort of anti-virus-like software that scans all outgoing e-mails for people who love to forward this crap and automatically delete it. IMO these FWD's are viruses.

What's wonderful is there is no way you can point out that the stories are fake without making them feel stupid and becoming defensive.

"Well, even if Paul Harvey didn't actually say it, he COULD have"

Well, that's not the fvcking point now is it?

That's why I'm glad I work for a company that can fire you for sending crap like that, keeps my inbox squeaky clean.

I can tell 99% of the time whether it's a hoax email or not by just reading the email. I feel no sympathy to those gullible people that forward this crap or send their bank account numbers over to Nigeria.

The problem is, I work in a freaking IT department, and people here still forward that crap.

I got the a stupid email the other day about Mr. Rogers and why he wore long sleeve sweaters. It was to cover up all the tatoos he got hile he was a marine sniper in Vietnam. Now the coworker who sent this is a pretty intelligent guy, but damn I did not even have to look that one up on snopes.

I have never heard of any of those "tracking e-mails" that were true. I don't even bother looking them up anymore, I just reply to all, chewing out the individual that sent it, and telling anyone else that if they forward it, they're as stupid as he is.

I think my favorite forward tracker was the one about Intel and their plans to merge with AOL, to become the world's largest ISP. Oh wow, Intel is in the ISP business? They're going to merge with the world's largest ISP and still be the world's largest ISP? Fscktards.

Any email that has a subject that starts FW: is one I usually get prepared to delete.

Then when I see the body and it starts
>>>
>>>
>>>

I immediatley delete.

Where I work, the 'head of communications' sends round daily circular e-mails. Recently a few of these have been obvious hoaxes.

I don't read my work email at all, because there is nothing of use on it - I found out about this because one of my colleagues had printed these out and put them on the 'communications board' along with a sign-up sheet (normally reserved for important announcements, where you sign to show that you have read and acknowledged them). I caused a lot of fuss when I got a red pen and wrote 'THIS IS A HOAX! PLEASE IGNORE' on it.

I couldn't find anything on Snopes about the Stella Awards ... AFAIK, they are legit. IIRC, the guy started collecting true outrageous lawsuit stories in response to one of the urban myth lawsuit emails floating around. I think Stella is the first name of the lady that sued McDonalds over the too-hot coffee.

A search for "stella" was all it took.

I used to have a canned message on my desktop that I would open and add my concerned citizen to the To line. Saved time. I had it linked to snopes, urbanlegends and vmyths.

I must have done it enough as I have not received one in months. Maybe I need to make more friends so I can receive them again?

I just checked my snail mail today and there was an envelope from Microsoft.

I opened it up and about shat myself when I saw a check for $54,357 from Bill Gates himself!!!

I don't care about you non-believers, I'm quasi-rich now suckers!!!!

Snopes is just trying to horde all the Microsoft checks for themselves!
