And tomorrow he's wasting money doing a campaign rally in Phoenix. This isn't election season, he just needs to hear the cheers of his deplorables to make him feel good.

Pure divisive bullshit. The Secret Service protects the institution of the Presidency & any person who serves in that capacity. Don't make Trump any more special than he already is.

Not bullshit.

The "secret service" is a cushy no-work job for top cops and firefighter brass to work as before they retire at 50 with 2 pensions. It has literally done nothing useful in decades, and has been plagued by scandals. It is bloated and mostly superfluous institution that is basically the "TSA" of the law enforcement world. It's "security theater" for the president of the US. Do you really not know these things?

If the secret service was really a "top agency" that recruited top talent, then why do all their agents look like bloated and balding former cops? Why aren't there any young agents in great shape?

Because nobody actually expects them to do jack shit except die if somebody attacks the prez. They are meat shields, and as meat shields they don't need to be fast or smart or healthy or good at their jobs.

Trump will exceed obama's 8 year entire travel costs by the end of the year, probably to the tune of 60+ million USD, mostly for completely unnecessary travel that the tax payer gets no actual benefit from.
Don't forget he was complaining about the 2-8 million USD the military spends on transgender healthcare yearly.
Not only will he spend that money, he'll also pocket a lot of that money. Trump Hotel, Mar a Lago etc are all making bank. Of course he is going to make sure he spends 90% of his presidency on his own properties transferring money from the taxpayer to his own pockets.

1: I'd increase the US budget by at least 75%, so....
2: Tea Party... did they exist in 2016?

They go by freedumb caucus now, iirc.
Not that repubs care about how much money they spend/give away to the rich, when they're in power.

You're just here to tear it all down, right?

Whining about a few million USD when the army spends trillions on military contracts? Now don't get me wrong, Trump is a real asshole for being so inconsiderate of the budgetary limits but nonetheless this just seems like pointless drivel to me.

Would you be willing to work for free? I'm guessing no.

The compensation crunch is so serious that the director has begun discussions with key lawmakers to raise the combined salary and overtime cap for agents, from $160,000 per year to $187,000 for at least the duration of Trump's first term.

But even if such a proposal was approved, about 130 veteran agents would not be fully compensated for hundreds of hours already amassed, according to the agency.

"I don't see this changing in the near term,'' Alles said.

I'm sorry if I give that impression. I suppose that you envision me as some kind of modern Samson, tearing down the edifice of your unwavering faith in American "institutions" such as the FBI and Secret Service only to hasten my own destruction along with yours. In fact, I am more like Moses, leading you to the promised land of true knowledge of the nature of these agencies.

And much like Moses, I don't explain much. I just tell you what the answer is... it's up to you whether you want to believe.

I believe they are salaried however I understand your point.
I wouldn't mind making a 168k per year and working a 6 day week, federal job too so good retirement.
I met a guy who was a Secret Service guy years ago, friend or a family friend. I think he started toward the end of Nixon and up to Bill Clinton but he said toward the end he did more desk stuff. I believe they have an early mandatory retirement too, thus they accumulate retirement credits faster than most.

So...when the secret service depletes the funds...do they get to stop protecting Cheeto and family?

No? How about they shut down his non-essential travel to his hotels, and make him stay in "that dump" better known as The White House?

False equivocation.

I could easily accuse you of being a "democrat shill" or whatever... it would be analogous to what I quoted above. But I'm above that. So I will just say: tsk tsk!

From reading the article, it appears that they are paid OT.

If it's not the communists, maoists, muslims, mexicans and fake news. Then it's the army spending trillions on military contracts. That justify everything that trump, nazis and white supremacists do. Fuhrer is infallible.

Come on. You have to admit this shit is hilarious.

Yeh, the Secret Service is just another bunch of useless gubmint employees... it's been standard right wing raving for decades.

Up to a maximum annual pay, iirc. If they're called upon to put in a shitpile of hours some of it is for free. Even with that the Donald is running them out of money & the Repub congress is too stingy to do anything about it.

What kind of disgusting, terrible human being would voluntarily risk their life to protect Trump? You wold have to pay them exorbitant amounts or you would have to find nazis and white supremacists who would work for less and obviously would love Trump, I guess?
Just regular ss (secret service) members would do that. It's their job. They protect the presidency. Don't know what they're paid, but you'd like to think they're not in it for the money. Should only hire patriots, and patriots respect the office, and would die for any president. A trump supporter wouldn't have the courage to die for trump. Kappa

Can you explain how you came by this insight into the operations of the Secret Service?

Obviously not and like I said I consider Trump an asshole for that but let's not pretend this creates that big of a hole compared to some other stuff. I guess the only solution is to provide the rather limited salary budget with additional urgency funds that I'm sure US has for these types of situations.

So funny when these shits are smart enough to distance themselves from dear leader while carrying water for him in the same sentence.
