sniping auctions... good/bad

I personally can't stand snipers... I recently found out there's an entire web service dedicated to snipe Ebay auctions for you!! EVIL!

Manual sniping is more fun I think. To be able to bid at the last second and get the item you've been wanting all week, when you know damn well someone else has been eyeing it up as much as you is somewhat gratifying. Bid Sniper programs kinda take all the fun away from it IMHO.

Frankly, if you use proxy bidding and put the MAXIMUM amount you are willing to spend on the item, sniping should be no problem whatsoever for you.

If any given person is willing to spend MORE than the MAXIMUM amount of money you were willing to give for an item, too damn bad. Either up what you are willing to spend on it, or live without it.

I was bidding on some games one time. The current bid was like $33, and with like 5 secs left I put in $40.06. Well the guys max bid just happened to be $40.05. I was quite happy with the way that turned out. 🙂

Aeh,

Not a matter whether it's "right" or "wrong" to me.

I just think that an auction should be a player participation environment, meaning that if you want the goods - you should be the one placing the bids, not snipeware.

If you're bidding on an item that shows up only once every blue moon, why shouldn't you auctionsnipe it?

I think sniping is bad b/c you get excited and end up paying more than you wanted to pay. Just my opinion :/

Sniping is GOOD! Auctions are based on one thing: who is willing to pay more. Sniping or not, the winner is who wanted to pay more, regardless of when they bid. If you got sniped, you bid too low. Plain and simple. The great thing about sniping is that inexperienced bidders don't bid their max, and you can outbid them without leaving enough time to outbid you back. It's fair and square.

My stance......either they were willing to pay more, or you were, whoever was wins the auction correct? Well, they just wanted it more than you did

Sniping is actually supposed to thwart that. Like the other posters already said...when you big on an item, put the max you are willing to pay. Whether or not the other user wins by sniping, or by manual bidding is irrelevant. They outbid you.

what is snping auctions?

Sniping is watching an auction until the very end, like with maybe 5 seconds left... then bidding on the item.
Most people bid a certain ammount, and then when they get outbid they up their bid. When someone snipes, the other people bidding don't have a chance to outbid you (even though they should have bid their max in the first place) so you get the item for cheaper than you would have gotten in the first place.

Perhaps a live auction, yes. Ebay's proxy bidding system and fixed time limits has already eliminated the interactivity, and already places bids on your behalf. If you're not using the system for what it is designed, that is your own fault.
