The original Sniper: Ghost Warrior is possibly the most lukewarm, uninspired game I've ever played. It gives me a spectacular feeling of "meh" every time I boot it up. If there was a yearly gaming award for being the most stale and mundane, Sniper: Ghost warrior would have most likely received it. It's the pinnacle of mediocrity. It's not necessarily bad, per se... the game does what it sets out to do, but it does so in the most generic way possible. It's just an incredibly insipid thing.
So naturally, I had to pre-order the sequel to see if it's any better.
My expectations aren't terribly high. There are a couple of things to look forward to, however: The developer (City Interactive) has moved away from Chrome Engine and is now using CryEngine 3. My other hope is that the devs sat down and played Sniper Elite V2 last year and learned something from it. Hopefully they went "Ohh, so that's how you make a good sniping game," and they used their newfound knowledge to improve Ghost Warrior 2.
Judging from the screenshots and video footage, the game already looks about 10x better than the original. Although that's not really an accomplishment. (It would be extremely hard to make the game not better than the original.) I still vaguely enjoyed Sniper: Ghost Warrior... but in a silly, B-grade kind of way. If the sequel remains largely the same, then I won't mind, considering I only payed $20 for it.
Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 releases tomorrow night. Given the lack of marketing for this game, I suspect it will pass under most people's radars. But for those of you who care (all two of you), I'll be happy to post my thoughts.
