i have a lot of trouble with my windstar. about 6 months ago it started getting 8mpg down from 18 (i took it in 3 different places and NOBODY found out what was causing it). While it is a hassle it really didn't bother me much. i drive maybe 100 miles a week (less when the kids are out of school).

well yesterday i had to go run some errands. i pull out of the garage and relized i forgot my phone. i ran back in through the garage and noticed a big pool of oil. so i turned off the van and checked it. the dip stick was bone dry. i had a qourt sitting on my work bench and poured it in. 10 minutes later i had a nice puddle under my van.

sigh sad sad day.

though i found a van (full size) i wouldn't mind. I want to run the vin before i really think about it.

sigh actually i want someone else to buy (not pay for it..go deal with them heh) for me. I get suckerd to often dealing with people. i tend to believe them when i know i shouldn't bah.

i hate buying cars, houses etc lol

Have you tried looking to track down the leak? Could be something simple, like a stripped oil pan bolt or an oil cooler line (if it has one). I mean, could be something expensive too, like a main seal.

If your Windstar has the V6 with a manual transmission can I have the bell housing?

its a auto. the engine was running good too.well except for the gas milage..and oil leak!

i don't think its the bolt. the puddle is off to the side.

also the thing gets 8 mpg and i have taken it in to 3 diffrent places and nobody knows why.

Join a forum for that specific car and ask some questions. Usually, fuel consumption going into the tank isn't an expensive problem unless its coupled with something like a blown ring or something. You'd know from the thick blue smoke if that happened.

no blue smoke at all.

Did anybody check the O2 sensors?

yeah had them checked. though thats what my brother-in-law says is wrong (he has been a mechanic for about 25 years). i was going to just replace them all this summer since its cheap. figured that would be fun and something to do.

but with the oil leak..i think i may just junk it.

my dad called a friend of his that runs a car dealership near me. he has a 2004 Taurus with 80k miles i can get in great shape for $4k. might pick t hat up since i need a vehicle. though i want a van.

You need to check the air charge temperature (ACT) sensor to make sure it is within spec. If not the car computer can think the engine is always cold and thus is in "choke" mode which will run very rich.

Oops...EDIT...I meant ECT (engine coolant sensor). Major brain fart. Thinking one thing and typing another.

Did the shops pull codes on the computer. I would think the ECT would show up as out of range but you never know. Also if you don't drive much short trips hurt gas mileage, winter gas, colder temps(idling while warming up the car I know its warming up out now though) and just needing a general tune up can really hurt gas mileage.

If your looking to have some fun with it you can always buy the car and tinker with the van over the summer. If your just going to junk it anyway it won't matter if you screw it up. You never know you might learn something be able to fix it cheap and end up with an extra vehicle.

that's what what i was thinking of doing.

If you're handy this is a great approach. Although we've all seen those houses with a vehicle in the yard that's been there for years and just becomes part of the landscape.

For the past year, that was my Supra. I was in the driveway laughing like a madman when I managed to start it this week!

Needs to get an emissions inspection, then I'll start working on some minor issues. By the end of summer, I may redo the cracking leather.
