One of the family's in town is going threw a bad winter. both parents got laid off so Christmas for the kids is not going to happen. The church across the street has been asking if people can help them out with gifts etc.

my daughter over heard it and while out looking for gifts for her friends and cousins asked if we can get the kids some toys she said it could even come out of her allowance.

such a good kid. /tear

Yes, but what was your response?

we let her pick out one toy for each child (3,8,12 yr old girls). I think we spent a total of $30 on them. and no we didn't take it out of her allowance. but we did make her buy her own lunch hehe

the family is nice but weird.

Way to make the parents feel like a poor charity case.

Isn't that what they are considerin both parents lost their job?
Well, without the social stigmatization of the CONCEPT of Charity, the "Have-mores" wouldn't have anything to hold over those less fortunate.
This harkens back to that "PRIDE" vs Ego thing in the other thread.

No man is an island, existing alone without interaction with the rest of humanity.
Everyone falters and fails, eventually.
Only the manner in which you offer your hand determines how much humanity remains.

To Waggy: Good job! :thumbsup;

Kids are great. They often show adults who are supposedly the more mature the way the world should be.

You are feeding right into her plan.

She is expecting you to get her extra gifts for being so sweet.

That's really cool, kids can be amazing with their ability to be compassionate. Sucks that their parents can frequently be so cold hearted...

I never got an allowance. :( I think my kids will have to earn theirs with grades, etc. That's how you do it right?

I'm not sure. My daughter gets some money from her mother for helping around the house, I don't give her anything specific though. If she wants something from the store, I take it under consideration, and get it for her if I agree.

Yeah, it's amazing how many times you see video of kids having a nice sports game and then some brawl erupts among the parents.
