To all the VW fanboys....

"Since 1994, when VW began its U.S. sales turnaround, the automaker consistently has been below the U.S. industry average in J.D. Power and Associates' studies of initial quality.

VW also has ranked below industry average in the past two J.D. Power annual studies of long-term vehicle quality. "

That's very nice. My 1999 Passat GLX is, and has been flawless. And to be honest, I'd rather drive it than most other sedans in it's class. That's why I picked it.

VW lovers don't like VWs because they are reliable boring vanilla boxes on wheels. They like them because of how they drive.

Can we stop the fanboy/anti-fanboy crap now? You guys act like you have a vested interest in this company or that, and argue over them as if it really matters.

Funny that they blame their suppliers with the quality faults. Don't they test at least a sampling parts they get before putting them into mass production? I don't know much about the auto industry, but I would think that like any other manufacturer, a random samppling would have to pass QC to get everything into production.

People like newer VW's because of their clean styling, excellent interiors (usually best in class), smooth running yet torquey engines, and excellent handling. They're good cars. I almost bought one when I was shopping for my last car but decided against it, not because of reliability concerns, but because I decided I didn't want FWD and because VW dealers in my area suck ass.
They really should work on that "dealer training" aspect the article mentioned. Anytime I want to listen to outrageous and blantantly obvious lies, I just think about walking onto a VW dealer lot. For example (this was but one of many lies before I walked away disgusted), I was looking at getting a GTI at Herzog-Meier. The only one they had on the lot the day I went there was black and they were really trying to push it on me. I told the saleman I didn't want black and could they please order me a silver one? His answer (and I quote): "The GTI doesn't come in silver."

Uhg! I would have walked out as well and never come back. Or, actually now that I think about it, I would have gone to the display stand and grabbed a book on the GTi's, flipped to the back page showing the color options and pointed out to him and said "Then what the fsck is this?"

I'm sorry, nothing but a massive overhall and mass layoffs of the current jackasses that work at their dealerships will help them. They need entirely new people, and a new philosopy.

Same here. I've had this happen at many dealers, though. Car salesmen are right up there with lawyers and politicians on the dishonesty scale.

I've found that the best VW dealers are those who sell other car types as well. A multi-brand dealership, if you will.

My local VW dealer also sells Toyota, Chrysler Kia, Mazda, Izuzu, Suzuki, Mitsubishi and Hyundai on two lots.

My g/f's 2002 Jetta is on it's third set of the ignition coils they mentioned due to the fact that the coils were replaced prior to the official recall. It suffers from numerous stalls and I still hold there's something wrong with the transmission (automatic) but every time she takes it in, the service techs are very adament that there's nothing wrong. That's not to mention the rattles that occur all over the cabin. I'm lucky that I haven't had to deal with VW service and she does it. I wouldn't be very patient with this.

Remember I said "blatant" lies.
I had that said brochure in my hand and he had seen me flipping through it before we started talking.

LMAO! VW sells more Reflex Silver Golfs and Jettas than any other color option! That's just hilarious. Sadly though, sleazeball underhanded lying salesman will be found at ANY dealership.

Just to add to the anecdotal evidence, since these VW threads come up now and then...

My sister bought a Beetle convertible a couple months ago. It's been in the shop twice now because it won't start.

Watch out. The VW fanbois will come in here and tell you it was made in Mexico, which is the source of all of VW's problems.
