Just switched from an MSI board running stable at 145 FSB (higest memory settings) to the AK31 with all the same components (and settings) and I can't even get it to post over 140, and get errors galore at any FSB above 133. So why is everyone so enamored with this board? Could this just be my second bad board in as many tries?

man, if it's really not at all stable, something is wrong SOMEWHERE, whether it be the board, or something else... What kind of troubleshooting have you tried? maybe it's your PS, maybe it's the voltage going to the memory? CPU getting cooled well? there is something wrong.....

omg...don't jump to conclusions bro lol.
I had to work with my ak31 rev3 for a WEEK to get it stable...now its a rock!
A few things to ponder on...
PSU good enough?
swap your ram around - moving my ram from slot 1 to 3 enabled me to go from a limited 140 bus up to 166!
what bios you running?
what sticker number is on your printer port? (31, 32, 33...?)
what cpu you running at? what voltage? what ram? etc etc
give us some numbes and we'll talk to you....
check these forums out...they are slow, but they have ALL the answers:
amd shuttle forums
lmk how you doin after all this...

Yah I thought about trying to swap the memory around. I have 2 sticks of crucial in slots 1 and 3. Otherwise all my components are totally money...350W Enermax, latest BIOS, latest 4in1's, Athlon XP 1700 running at default settings woth an SK6 h/s and 80 mm 42 CFM fan...all the same as with the MSI board. I'll try swaping things around a bit and see if it makes any difference.

<< did you try seeing if its stable non-overclocked? :-] >>

Yah, getting some random windows errors even non-overclocked...but with all optimized settings.

Ok, so you're getting errors in Windows. BSOD's? Which Windows version? If you're getting these errors at default, it sounds like you've got a jacked up OS install. Did you format when you ported your HDD from the MSI to the AK31? If not that would be the first order of troubleshooting. You should already have your stuff backed up...you did backup before the mobo change right?

Oh Cripes! Format and reinstall just for a mobo change??? That's rather excessive. As it is I had to reinstall Win XP over my previous installation as it would not boot after the change.

Dude, if you're changing mobos NO MATTER IF IT'S THE SAME CHIPSET, it's always SMART to do a clean install.

And here you are blaming shuttle:eek:

Snatch, I can almost guarantee you that if you clean format and reinstall you'll be just fine. You don't say what board the MSI was, but even if it is a KT266A, you need a fresh install to get the best performance...especially if you plan to overclock.

Good grief! Let's see, I'm installing all new core logic, why would I want to do a fresh install of my OS? I think it's the mobo's fault. Couldn't possibly be that I don't have a clue...

Ok easy now...not all new core logic....same chipset and everything, just a different mobo manufacturer. Ok...well I can see that this is going to require a little experiment. As soon as I get a chance I'll do a fresh reinstall. Bet you all it doesn't change anything.

I'm so sick of people bad mouthing products that have no idea what they are doing. Learn how to setup your PC before you go blaming manufacturers. Thank you...

The title should have been something like "Having problems with my AK31, pls help!"

Yep clean install is what I always do even if I don`t overclock, then once you have it running stable at default speed then start overclocking gradually,if you need help with bios and voltage settings there`s lots of guys here with that board that can help you,if you made your thread title more positive rather then negative you would probably be getting lots of positive input ;).

Did a complete reinstall as suggested...system running rock solid for 2 days at 145 FSB. Yup, I'll eat each and every word...this is a fine mobo.

Glad that we could help Snatchface. By the way, I hate your name. I happen to like snatch, but everytime I see your name next to that baghead I get the shudders...
