Snapstream = what a rip off!!

I ordered the PVR-250 + SNapstream 3 kit and what a rip off.

First, the PVR-250 card is used/refurbrished. The anti-static bag is clearly worn out and there are THREE anti-static labels covering the opening. Two of them had been torn before the third was stuck on.

Second, I can clearly see the marking for the screw on the bracket. Someone installed the card prior and returned it for whatever reason.

Third, the IR receiver is missing! This was a SHRINKWRAPPED RETAIL BOX and the IR receiver is missing.

Either hauppauge royally screwed up, or someone's been "refurbrishing" these packages and selling them as new/retail.

I tried calling Snapstream but they don't have a phone #. No one answers their emails either.

My advice is not to buy from Snapstream.

yeah, i would never buy hardware in a bundled kit from a software company. i figure it's pretty much a lock that i know more about hardware, and where to buy it, than they do!

The hardware was actually in a shrinkwrapped retail box.

it wasn't a white boxed/OEM PVR-250 card w/ their software.

Either Hauppauage screwed up with their retail box packaging or Snapstream or another 3rd party violated the contents and re-shrinkwrapped the box.

I'd be interested to get your opinions on the actual SnapStream software though. I've been looking at SnapStream and ShowShifter for a potential TIVO pc i want to build someday.

You can try the software for free if you want.

The trial version of 3.2 crashes sometimes - I was using 3.2 w/ XP Pro SP-1a.

My computer system works great overall, it's definitely their software.
