Snap out of it New York Jets fans.

As a life long NY Jets fan here is my public service announcement for 2007.
Snap out of it.
Enjoy the one or two playoff games this year.
But don't be thinking Mangini is a genius or that this years team is a 10-6 team.
First of they won 4 games last year. Despite losing BOTH their quaterbacks in the same game early in the season. And the Jets west coast offense relies on a quaterbacks brains and experience to run it. And the Jets Curtis Martin broke down and was a shell of the player he was. And the coach quit on the team with third of the season to go. Lastly the Jets were hit by more injuries than almost any other team.
If they had not lost both quaterbacks, or had backed up Martin with a decent reserve, or the Coach didn't quit they should have won 6 maybe 8 games.
And so we come to this years Man-genious.
Well, this year they had an experienced quaterback play the whole season. And picked up some adequate running backs. And were perhaps the least injured team in the NFL. And they had a coach who wanted to be there and coached hard all year.
So 10 wins was a stretch. But not such a huge one. The Jets could have easily been 9-6 or 8-8. Which was really not so great improvement on what they could have been last season.
Oh yeah, did I mention that the Jets in 2005 were coming off a 10-6 year and played a tough schedule. While this year coming off a 4-12 season they had perhaps the weakest schedule in the league?
So as Bill Parcells said about Tony Romo, "don't go getting out yer annointing oil".
Next year the Jets will play a tough schedule, they will get a poor first round pick and still don't have a backup to Pennington (or a replacement for him).
Just a reality check for the enthusiasm.
