Hey All,

My current Antec 350 (came with a case) power supply has been acting funny, so I went out and got an Antec True Power 480. Antec's are *usually* great and I expected that the True Power 480 would take care of my problems.

I put it in my case last night, hooked up all of the fans, drives, etc. and hit the power button... POP -> Smoke... The thing fried as soon as I turned it on and scared the crud out of me. I thought for sure that my system was toast and that I would be speaking with an Antec representative soon asking for them to replace my components... =)

However, after replacing the True 480 with my cheap Antec 350, my system powered on like a champ and seemed to work great... no adverse effects... yet.

Being very famliar with Static discharge effecting components, I am worried that my components may run well for a while, but then die in the future.

Have any of you had an experience will a power supply taking a dive? If so, are your components still working?

What are your components exactly. Also I hope that PS came with a warranty.. if not thats a shame.

Do you notice any burnt marks on your mobo? How did this PS happen to break?

Test out the power supply to see if it still works. If you dont know how they read this really quick. test

I have had a PS fail while in a system before, the reason it failed is because It was a POS dell that I plugged it into. Unfortunatly the mobo/cpu and everything still worked while the brand new enermax 431W was fried. :|

I hope it wasn't because you had the voltage setting on the back set to 230! :Q

Here are my components:

P4 2.0A (Not overclocked... waiting until I get a stable PS)
Thermaltake P4+ Orb + Fan
Epox 4G4A+
2x60GB IBM 60GXP HDD
2x256 PC2100 Crucial DDR
Geforce 3 Ti200
Soundblaster Live! 5.1
Onboard NIC
TDK VeloCD 16X CDRW
Acer 8X DVD-ROM
3x80mm Case Fans
Good Ol' Floppy

Didn't check the mobo for burnt marks... I will look when I get home. I am assuming at this point that there won't be any becuase it still seems to work.

I returned the PS to Fry's this morning (I just purchased it 2 days ago.) They said it was definately fried.

Voltage was at 115 ;)

IF it fried as soon as you hit the power button or within seconds, the rest of your components should be fine. I've had a PSU do that to me and no adverse affects 6 months or so later.

Obviously RMA the PSU to where ever you bought it from. If they give you a problem and you have your invoice/receipt you can RMA it to us. We typically recommend though going through whoever you bought it from first (since they can give you your money back, we'll only do a replacement unless you bought it directly from us of course).
