Snake/rat help needed

amdskip

Lifer
My neighbor across the hall in the dorms feeds his snake like once every 4 weeks a live rat. He put the rat in yesterday and his snake wasn't hungry so he didn't eat the rat. He left it in and was going to take care of it today and then he found this.

One baby is already dead and I guess theres like 10 total baby rats in the cage. Whats the best way to dispose of them, toilet? What should we do with the rat. Its useless for snake feeding now.

Bring the Rat and its offspring back to the pet shoppe. They'll give him a new rat likely and they'll handle everything else.

bring 'em back if possible, if not let nature take it's course on the mom, the babies....dunno

either way that snake needs a bigger cage, my snake is half that size and has twice the cage

yeah i was going to post this.

I have a few ball pythons. Never leave a rat in the cage. the rat can get hungry and actually kill the snake! i always buy mine from here. its a great place to order.

If I'm low on them i go to a local reptile swap and purchase the rats i need (frozen) for $1-2 each.

but if it was me i would take the rat out and the pups and raise them. heck i used to bread my own mice! i had a horse trouth and had like 100 mice in it. heh.

I guess if I was pregnant, being thrown in a big tank with a big time predator, say a great white shark, might induce labor in me too. Or at least make me piss my pants.

Yup, we know that much. He's gonna take it back to the shop tomorrow asap.

I can't believe anyone would do that to a mouse...

let alone film it.

But really, when you think about it, how different is that for the mouse as compared to being strangled to death by a snake?

ummmm 10 seconds vs. a minute

both are natural. both are not natural in the tanks. i pre-kill mice for my snake. that = no pain for mouse, no pain for snake, no gore for me!

When my snake gets a bad bite (and thus a bad wrap) on a mouse, he can take almost two minutes to finish it off, mainly because he has to readjust his grip on the mouse without letting go.

which is why i buy pre-killed and frozen mice/rats.

that way i dont need to kill them or worry about them hurting my snake.
