i have enough experience with my GF's B.P. that i think i want a snake that is more active, but about the size of a BP in terms of length, and girth. However, i want a snake that is more active, yet can still be handled regularly like a B.P can.

Other than the JCP, or other Carpet Python variants, what would you guys recommend?

also, what am i looking at for cost of a male baby JCP. and for kicks, a female.

You can get a JCP for around $200, possibly under that depending on breeder. The really cool Python species like the Blackheaded or Woma (my favorites) are a lot more money. Look at Brazilian Rainbow Boas. Those are about the right size, price and temperment. If you don't want to get into the more exotic species many varieties of rat snake and king snake make great pets. They'll be about the right size, very active, easy to care for and tend to be very tame if handled properly.

My roommate had a carpet python for a while when I was in college (actually it died of cancer of all things). It was a good pet (to the extent any snake can be when compared to a true companion animal); it had a stable temperment and was never aggressive in my experience. They are also good in that they don't get TOO big.
