Hey all
I wrote about this about 5 months or so ago when windows vista was pretty much in it's infancy. Well after a bunch of performance updates my problem seems to be worse than ever. I bought a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop last september and I've been completely pleased with it since, except for one thing. It takes at least 5 minutes for windows vista to completely boot and display all my taskbar icons and become usable. It will take something like 30 seconds at the boot screen, another 15 to 30 at the welcome screen, finally my desktop will show up but only a couple of my taskbar icons. 3 minutes after that the screen will go black for a few seconds and then finally windows will display all my taskbar icons and I can then use the operating system.
It's done this ever since I booted the laptop for the first time and since september I've installed windows xp and it booted from post to desktop in 30 seconds flat just like my desktop. I reinstalled vista a couple weeks ago in the hopes that Microsoft had come out with enough performance and reliability updates to fix this problem, but evidently they haven't.
Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this? I've also tried the same install of vista basic on my desktop and it boots just like windows xp, 30 seconds. The laptop has top of the line hardware as far as mid range laptops go.
I've tried various beta and non beta nvidia drivers, different ram, regedit tweaks, and there are absolutely no virus, malware, or spyware running, nor any programs that suck up memory in the background.
Any thoughts? or will I be destined to run windows xp on this laptop?
