I can get my CPU (Temp 2) under 50°C no matter what I try. I see many run around 45 or so, is 50 too high?

50c is fine, my SN45G with 2400+default vcore@2700+ (2.17ghz) and a F@H 24/7 load temp of 52c with the fan set to medium is turning out Gromacs WU's that will bring a slightly unstable overclock crashing down, so relax because you are well within the safety/stability zone with this SFF system

yeah i had one of those baby pcs, had a barton 2500+ in it, always ran 56C.

the best thing i found was to cut out the grate covering the exhaust out , it will improve airflow alot, and it drops temps by almost 7C, you can replace it with a wire fan guard.

also, replace that loud ass adjustable fan that come with it for a quieter panaflow, that another thing i did, it quiets it down a bunch

Well, it's a 1.4G tbird running at 1.4G and idle temps are around 51C with speedfan set to max 6% on the stock fan.

The 1.4 t-bird is still among the most power hungry and hot runnin' bastages around so that temp is fine. BTW, Danny's advice is excellent, if I were concerned with temps or noise I'd do just as he suggests. I have found that on med. my fan is much quiter than on the smart fan setting and I have no need of the grill mod since my temps are fine.

An easy way to significantly lower cpu temp:

1) Cut out the fan grill at the back of the case (I used a dremel) to improve air flow.
2) Add a 80-to-120mm fan adaptor to the hole (outside of the case, of course).
3) Add a 120mm fan (I use Vantec Stealth 53cfm/28db).

Cpu temp for my 2.6c@3.3 drops from 56c to 48c under load, while i use MED fan setting in BIOS.

I added a 50CFM fan behind the grill (on the outside) and got my temps to 29C, didn't help the noise though! :Q

Changed the stock fan to a Panaflo and piggybacked another one to the outside. (I'm not ready to cut this thing yet)

Both make less noise than the stock sunon and my temps dropped 4-5°C as well!

No, but a $20 Dremel knockoff from Wal-Mart will. Just remember this-- don't put downward pressure on a Dremel! Just let the blade's 20,000-30,000 rpm's do the work for you. I ruined a $70 Dremel by pushing on it, a few years back, before I learned that lesson.:(

If it's stable, your tbird should be good up to 85 or 90C, can't remember which it is for the 1.4.

For cutting out the stamped grill, anything that can cut sheet aluminum will work. Some (like a dremel) will do a prettier job. Before using the dremel I'd suggest taking everything out of the case because aluminum dust on your motherboard is probably not good.

Temperatures that the CPU can withstand is twofold. First is the absolute temperature before core damage occurs. That one is usually around 90ºC. Then there is the highest operational (stable) temperature, usually around 70ºC. Note that this is probably under optimal conditions, plus the actual numbers vary depending on the processor (faster of the same core type will be lower temperature).
