SN41G2 Questions

Hey guys...

I'm thinking about getting a Shuttle SN41G2 to replace my main computer and turn the full size box into a Linux Box/Server.

It isn't exactly my style to build a SFF, but I built a SV25 for my wife a while back and she loves it.

Anyway, here are my concerns.

  1. I just purchased a T-bred B 2100+. What are the chances of overclocking this CPU to a 166 FSB on the SN41G2?
  2. How will the onboard video compare to my current GF3Ti200? I play a couple FPS games and DAoC, but I'm not hardcore by any means.
  3. The only drawback to the SV25 is that annoying 40mm PSU fan. How does the SN41G2 compare as far as noise goes?
  4. I have a set of Creative Labs FPS2000 speakers. Will I be able to have 4.1 sound and still have a line-in for my TV-Card?

Any input from Shuttle users here?

TIA

1. you can set the FSB manually, but it depends on your processor and cooling. (no way to set the multiplier though. )

2. The IGP onboard is okay if you are not a hardware gamer. but you want to use good quality of RAM in BOTH banks (so you don't suffer performance loss). IGP is fairly picky about the RAM..

3. I swap mine out with a different 40mm fan. and it's less annoying. the problem is that I am unwilling to run at the lowest speed, due to heat problems.

4. That is one thing shuttle need to work on it. the line-in jack is shared with rear out. so your choise is either rewire the front mic-in to line-in on the MB, and plug it in there, or stick another line-in jack in the back of the case and wire it to the line-in (or CD audio) on the MB.

even without the 4.1 speaker, the line-in port has a volume problem. it's very very low even on max setting. I tried different drivers and there's no difference. I think I'll end up solder a line-in jack to the back of the case..

I heard that the NForce2 drivers for Linux haven't been perfected. You might be better off getting an SB51G.

my 2100+ tbred will do 1906 on my sn41g2, you can manually up the voltage on the cpu by bridging certain L11 gates, i have not tried this, i will do it as soon as school is done for the year.

my system has 1gb of pc2700 ram
radeon 9700 pro
t-bred 2100+
winfast pctv card

the cooling kind of sucks becuase of the grill they use, you are going to want to cut out he grill when you get it on both fans, it improves temps and air flow drastically, like 5-7 degrees, the psu is decent, i figure if i set my cpu voltage at 1.75 voltas, its just like if i were to use a palomino core, so i figure its safe, and with 1.75 volts, i should have no problem hitting 166fsb

the onbord video is alright i guess, i just chose to use my radeon 9700 pro, cause games run flawless on it

the biggest draw back is the fact that shuttle did not include a digital coaxial output, they only included an optical out, which sucks, because how many people actally have computer speakers that can decode an optical signal----NONE unless you want to spend $300 or more, but i do say, the sound quality is decent- i use the headphone jack so its analog, but as soon as i get the money, i'ma get computer speakers that utilise optical out

oh and the 40mm fan only kicks on loud when the system temp gets really high, right now in my 70F room, its not on

i say go for it
