Smudge marks on monitor

Every couple of weeks I clean my monitor screen. I turn it off, and use water and a terry cloth. It gets it nice and clear and clean, but after a couple weeks, these smudge marks come back (and I never touch the screen!).

What can I do to get rid of them?

What kind of monitor?

If it's glass (CRT), forget water and try Windex or something comparable. For LCD's, go to Best Buy or somewhere and buy some LCD screen cleaner. Works great, i forget what its called but it comes in a little green bottle and comes with a microfiber cloth as well. I'm willing to bet the smudges are oil-based, like fingerprints or something, that won't come off with just water.

Bad advise.

NEVER use windex on a monitor, as it will dissolve the anti-glare coating on the screen. Just use soap/water.

That's pretty much what "LCD screen cleaner" is. Try this out OP, it works. If you're lazy, just use an alcohol swab that you rinsed with a little water :p.

eh, what you really mean is don't use windex glass cleaner (ammonia)... you can use the vinegar version although it's not as great
