"Smudge" mark on my lcd monitor :(

I have a 17" viewsonic VG710s lcd which I paid $500 for a little over a year ago (painfully). I recently moved, and the monitor must have gotten bumped in the process, because there is a dark "smudge" mark in the middle of my monitor. It's like a slight indentation, but the pixels don't seem to be dead. Is there any way to open up my monitor & fix this slight dark spot? It's quite big and noticable, especially in a white background.
Just to add I am very good w/ electronics in general, so I'm not afraid to open up my monitor... I just don't want to ruin a $500 investment either. Any help would be appreciated.

I wouldn't recommend it, find a specialist shop and search google for more information on it.

does anyone else have any experience with LCDS? Anyone else encountered this?

a pic would help, but generally those are pretty permanent considering to fix it you would have to disassemble the PANEL and correct what is wrong there
