My wife has some software that allows her a dial up connection to work. The software is called Winframe or Citris Metaframe ICA Client or something like that. When I try and log on it gives me 2 different error messages:

"Cannot find the file smsrun32.exe (or one of it's components). Make sure the path or filename are correct and that all required libraries are available."

and

"Could not load or run smsrun32.exe specified in the system registry. Make sure the file exists on your computer or remove the reference to it in the registry."

I have 4 computers all networked running Win98. The tech support person at my wife's work says I need to disconnect from the network (my home network)for the software to work. Is there an easy way to do this?? My wife's friend who knows little about computers loaded and used the software with no problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

This is a compenent of SMS. The workstation is an SMS client, or thinks it is but is missing some pieces. Check the follwing keys that may be calling smsrun32 and disable it there. This could also be called from within a logon script, in which case, contact your IT dept so they can provide a workaround.

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServicesOnce
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Userinit

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServicesOnce
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows

However, if this workstation was setup by your IT department for business use, then I would contact them so they can correct the problem. If this is a system provided by your employer, SMS may be required for their inventory and software distribution.

Why would the software work on a non-networked machine and not on my networked machine? What I'm looking for is an easy way to temporarily non-network my machine from my home network so I can dial up to my wife's work without getting the error messages. I may just set up my old K6-200 out of the network to do the job if there is no easy way to temporarily un-network one of my 4 working machines.

I assume when the tech says I need to take the machine "out of the network" he means to remove all network protocals except dial up adapter??

Yes, I tried disabling the NIC and changing the Network Work Group, it did not work.

it could be a login script trying to run. since i don't know how your systems are setup it's difficult to provide a definitive answer.

as I suggested before, try your IT dept... this person talking about disconnecting from the network... that suggesting does not make much sense based on the little information provided.

Dude, if I had more details I'd probabaly know how to fix the problem :) All I know is that the software works on a computer that is a standalone non-networked computer of a co-worker of my wife's and that it does not work on my networked computer. I'm just looking for an easy way to "Un-network" my computer temporarily to use this software.
