I'm trying to get in touch with somebody on a mountain with 1 bar of GSM (or might be TDMA, can't remember) reception. I keep sending her SMS but it appears she's not getting them.

isn't SMS supposed to be "save and forward"? so presumably she would get the SMS eventually, just moving around as the signal strength changes. right?

why would she not be getting my msgs?

umm it may sound dumb, but are you using the full 10 digit phone number, xxx-xxx-xxxx? If you are not, it wont go.

i thought it works the way you suggested.... but recently I have had cases where the signal is weak, itry to send an SMS and it fails... move out to the balcony, send, it works ... so it's not store and forward, apparently

Store and forward with Verizon too. I text at work since I have very little signal in my office (too little to talk even). There's one spot where I get enough signal to send them, otherwise it asks if I want to store the messege, then send when I get a signal.
