SMS with Cingular in SoCal?

Does anyone know of a free SMS service that will work with Cingular? I've tried www.mtnsms.com but they aren't very good with Cingular from my experience. My brother has an AT&T phone and he sends me SMS to my Cingular phone ok. I've gone to the Cingular website, but I'm not subscribed to the web-based text service.

I've used ICQ before and it's worked, but I don't want to install that bloatware. I've tried using my 11 digit number@pacbell.net, but it hasn't gotten through or doesn't work.

I just want something so my friends don't have to call me but can msg me from the internet.

I have Cingular and my parents in NZ send SMS to my cell using this website:
Online Cingular Text Messaging.
I dont recall subscribing to it, I just sent them URL and they use it.
I havent seen any extra charges on my account.

Hmmm, interesting, because I know I didnt subscribe to it and it isnt part of my calling plan.

Cingular is ass. I recommend you ditch it and go with Sprint or AT&T.
