I have a Rioworks PDVIA-LS, [2] 700's provided by compuwiz. ok,

Motherboard detects both processors at 700Mhz. Have not tried overclocking yet. For some reason, Win2k does NOT detect it. not in RC5 or WCPUID. Hmm..

err?

update: thanks all. read @ bottom for outcome.

I'll start this off with the questions, is this a new install? or is it a hard drive you transferred. You can see if it's using two processors by looking at the task manager

If you already had win2k installed in this system and just dropped in a 2nd cpu, it won't work. You need to update the system type.

I transferred my Fasttrak100 Raid array over. how do i "update" the system type?

where in task manager do i see "2" processors?

Go to Device Manager, Computer and look at what kind of PC you have. Right click on it and go to drivers. Update the driver to an ACPI Multiprocessor PC (if you have ACPI). If you don't have ACPI, use MPS Multiprocessor PC.

only one. so its obvious to me that according to rc5, wcpid and task manager, that my system is only running 1 proc.

ok, done. restarting. thanks guys.

Ok, it detects 2 procs now! but, hmm, its really laggy.

well, its not exactly "breathtaking" speed, actually is sort of slower than my previous 1ghz tbird. also, the mouse is lagging. very high latency in when i move the mouse. how do i fix that? i tried both mps and acpi multiproc configurations. the first time in acpi the computer locked..

<< I know I'd do a clean install if I was going to add a second CPU... But that's just me. 🙂 >>

Man, long story. ok, my original intent was to wait until my scsi drive got here, 7 days from now? so i saw no point reinstalling.

adul-- yes. i did install them. but u wouldnt know what was wrong with it! it was the freaking bios. i didnt know it at the time so right now its reinstalling dual boot. but, the newest version fixes the mouse laggy problem under win2k acpi enviornment.

so my lesson today is: update your bios.

thanks to all u guys for helping out. at least i learned something.

I have a related question:

If I want to use a single faster CPU after setting up Win2k with 2 slower CPUs, will I need to change the system type again from dual system to single CPU system?

I just picked up an Dual BX board tested good with 2 Celeron PPGA and slot 1 P3s.
