SMP DC projects ???

I think I screwed up while re-arranging machines. I took one of my dual processor machines and decided to consolidate my e-mail, CDRW and TV recording onto one machine. I have now run into that W2K and Outlook 2000 pausing problem.

I really don't want to move Office back to a single proc machine, since the only single proc left in the house will be for gaming/OC'ing/seti only.
All the other singles will be in the garage in egg-crates, which reminds me, I need to post pictures for you on my website before I hit the road again, I've got that last rush to see all customers before year-end.

I have 2 options:

#1 upgrade to Outlook 2002 - best price I've found is $99, but if I installed office 2000 as a group can I upgrade only Outlook without causing issues?

#2 convert this machine from Seti to another dual enabled project. What other projects are enabled for SMP? And like seti I don't mind putting them in different directories.

Thanks...Carl

My primary project is Distributed Folding, which runs SMP by running two instances of the client from seperate directories. My secondary project is Seventeen or Best, which has a seperate client designed for SMP in Windows, and I think you just install to different directories in Linux. The AnandTech Distributed folding will soon be in 9th place overall and is currently having a "White Elephant" race where first prize is a 1.4GHz TBird, 2nd is a 256MB stick of PC2100 RAM, 3rd is a PC Cooling device, with a second 1.4 TBird, 256MB RAM, and PC Cooling device being given away as consolation prizes via a drawing. The race just started on the 29th, so its not too late to join if you're interested.

Question 1: I installed Office97 and Word 2002 on my boss's system and everything works just fine so a newer version of Outlook with and older Office should work.

Question 2: Find-a-Drug is SMPable. All you have to do is edit the think.lgo file with notepad and add a copy of the line with think.exe in it.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but the OGR-25 project is still running and since it's the same client as RC5-64 was, it should be nativeley SMP compliant. 😉 Best thing about the RC5/OGR project client IMHO. However, the current status of the stats is somewhat lacking. 🙁

I think mix and matching Office components is OK. You just need to install the older version first, and then when you put on the newer version, don't select the appropriate components for install to keep older versions of the ones you want. (you cant install an older version over a newer one)

(another vote for Distributed Folding!)

You can definitely run Office 2000 and Outlook 2002 without any problems, as that's the setup we had at my (now former 😉) workplace. IIRC, the only thing that we couldn't do is set Word to be the default editor in Outlook.

Like NWM, I too thought of OGR, as the DNET client is natively SMP capable. Just ONE of the nice features of that client. 😉

And as far as SETI and SMP, I used SETIDRIVER to manage SMP. 😀

Folding@Home is easily SMP-able by putting two copies of the CLI version of the client into two different folders, and running each one with the -local switch. 🙂
