Hi friends,

I am going to assemle my own pc (athlon1.4+kt266a+ddr512) and was interested in loading linux.I was wondering if there are any issues with linux and via chipsets ? Or linux with AMD processors in general.

Another alternative for me is to use intel petium III (maybe dual processor board) with linux + windows.

Someone mentioned some days back that there are issues with the sound driver, video driver and other drivers on dual processor machines running Windows. It was something got to do with the drivers not being smp aware. Does it matter ? Shouldn't the OS take care of such issues ? If I plan to load linux on the dual processor, are there similar problems wrt the drivers for the sound card, video card etc ?

Any insight into these issues based on your experiences would be useful for me to make a good decision.

Sincere Regards and thanks in advance.

If you get quality hardware this should not be a problem. By quality I mean hardware manufactured by companies that take linux seriously. That means no nVidia and no creative labs (although they should be better than nVidia).
