SMP Aware Drivers + Linux Drivers

Hi friends,

I am going to assemle my own pc (athlon1.4+kt266a+ddr512) and was interested in loading linux.I was wondering if there are any issues with linux and via chipsets ? Or linux wit +h AMD processors in general.

Another alternative for me is to use intel petium III (maybe dual processor board) with linux + windows.

Someone mentioned some days back that there are issues with the sound driver, video driver and other drivers on dual processor machines running Windows. It was something got to do with the drivers not being smp aware. Does it matter ? Shouldn't the OS take care of such issues ? If I plan to load linux on the dual processor, are there similar problems wrt the drivers for the sound card, video card etc ?

Any insight into these issues based on your experiences would be useful for me to make a good decision.

Sincere Regards and thanks in advance.

The only real issue I've heard so far about Linux and the newer 760MP chips is the CPU temperature modules lock the system, if you don't use them you should be ok.

Drivers don't necessarily have to be SMP aware, but if they do stupid things (as Windows drivers frequently do) they can have problems in SMP boxes. I ran a BP6 with 2 466 Celerons for a while with no problems at all in Linux or Win2K.

I should be getting the rest of my parts for my 760MP setup next week, if I run into any problems I'll post.
