SMOOTHVISION Comparison?

Has anyone ever done a review of SMOOTHVISION similar to how Anand does reviews on AA/AF?

I'd like to see a real comparison between SMOOTHVISION on and off. Some comparison screenshots (say, an R9700Pro vs GeForce FX5800 Ultra) of UT2K3 (It's my understanding that it's the only game out at the moment that even supports it) might be nice. Any R9700Pro owners willing to indulge me by turning it on and screencapping so I can see how it looks?

If you can indulge me, please email the pics to chsh1ca@yahoo.ca (zipped preferably).

I know it's not helpful, but somewhere there are pictures of UT2k3 with smoothvision on but I'm not totally sure where I saw the pictures :/

Do you know what Smoothvision is? It's ATI's marketing name for their AA and AF...

I think you're a little confused. :)

Wait, you're right, I'm talking about TRUFORM... LOL! (Damn Buzzwords!)

So anyways, now that I have the right feature...

Has anyone ever done a review of TRUFORM similar to how Anand does reviews on AA/AF?

I'd like to see a real comparison between TRUFORM on and off.

Well, I found a german site, but I don't speak german, and it's samples from Quake and Quake II...

UT2003 isn't the only game that supports it... The only game I have installed that supports it is Madden 2003, gimme a few seconds and I'll post screen shots.

:D

/me can't wait. :)

Thanks! I've been looking for some real-world game examples, as most I've found are ATI's own art samples, and of course they'll pretty it up.

It's hard to tell. :p I think it only uses TF on the helmets... They're a little more rounded with it on. (look at #58)

The thing is, it's meant for older games that don't have as many polygons. More modern games don't really need it to make round objetcs look better because they have enough polys...

Too bad ATI decided to go with software trueform with the R300 over the hardware support of the 8500. I don't see developers jumping onboard when ATI seems to have lost interest.

None, as far as I know. I've never seen it specifically benched though, so I can't be sure.

it can be a huge hit on the r300/r350 based cards. they do not have hardware support for truform so it really stresses the system when used in already intensive applications like ut2k3. however the r300 does have hardware support for truform2, unfortunately that is not backward compatible and i am not aware of any application that supports it. don't get me wrong though the r300/350 cards are great in many respects, however i really recommend you do not buy the card for truform. the only game i get get any benift out of it at all is rtcw singleplayer, were it does look really cool and i have enough cpu to push it fine.

wow, I didn't realize madden looked so good!

but I personally can't see the difference between TF off and on.
