Smoothing out the touchpad on a laptop?

I got an HP laptop with a touchpad. Its nice and everything but I cant stand the touchpad. It has that glossy car paint feel to it, almost like there is grease on it, so it makes it hard to run your fingers across the pad. Is there anything I can do to make it less like car paint and more like a touch pad. I like how my old dell touchpad felt.
