Smoking should be outlawed!

the tobacco companies are too powerful. they got marajuana outlawed so that it can't compete with tobacco.

Then they should quit being attacked and forced to pay stupid lawsuits. They should be able to advertise using any character they want to.

alcohol too as long as were getting moral about it...
pornography too!

I like this idea of telling people how to live.. the fun could never end!

[/sarcasm]

as he return to a rational free thinking man

who said that?

[rant]I hear ya. Man i'm tired of hearing how every time they raise the price of cigarettes its because they need the money to offset money spent by the government for smokeres medical bills. Bullcrap,I know so many smokers who have lived full lives w/o incident from smoking. In fact,I know not one person with cancer or any other disease from cancer. Not that it doesn't happen but they make it sound like it happens to everyone who smokes. Not even 20% of people who smoke get sick yet we pay 3-400% taxes on smokes. W/O the taxes cigarettes would cost $1.50 a pack. What a rip off,its a big scam to shaft smokers who for some reason don't stick up for our rights like we should.[/rant]

Well, the attempt to outlaw alcohol backfired severely. Tobacco, perhaps because of the clout of the cigarrete companies?

OT:
Did you know that the cigarrete gained its popularity during the first world war because it didn't take as much time to smoke as a cigar or a pipe, thus the soldiers who had a small break from duty could serve their addiction.

<< What a rip off,its a big scam to shaft smokers who for some reason don't stick up for our rights like we should. >>

Cigarrettes are the scam....not the taxes you pay for them!

Speak for yourself. I smoke because I choose to and it also helps calm my nerves in times of stress. No scam there. If you don't like it don't smoke. Simple as that. You don't want to be around it. MOVE! I don't like car emmisions but I am not telling you to stop driving.

Tobacco companies are not responsible for people getting sick from smokes. The people are. The taxes are to make government rich at the expense of stupid people.

How would any of you like it if they started charging $5.00 for a pack of gum because they knew you were addicted to it and would buy it at any cost? You would be pissed. Understand? Its a blatent abuse of power over a certain percentage of society who happen to be addicted to smoking. Its wrong and if I could circumvent the system I would.

The reason it calms your nerves, or one is because when you take a drag you are also taking a deep breath. Deep breaths are relaxing. It also helps satisfie the chemical need for a cigarrette in your body. The longer you wait between smokes, the more tension you will feel, thus the more relaxtion you will feel when you finally pull out that cig.

hmmm...most of the time, especially when I'm walking to classes, I can't escape the cigarrettes because the person in going in the same direction as me!

Whats annoying about smokers, other than the smell, is their blatant littering(Not all of them fortunately)! Its common to see dozens of ciggarrettes on a street corner. They can be found outside all over! In the woods...on the sidewalk, entrances to buildings, ect.

Philosipher, that is not what calms your nerves. Nicotine is a stimulant which acts to relax you,not speed you up like most stimulants do. Read about it. It has nothing to do with fresh air, remember, your taking a drag of a cigarette. Where is the fresh air in that equation?

I don't litter but still don't see the big deal, they are not that big of a problem. If they were you can bet they would make the smokers pay for everyones litter if they could, whether it was buts or candy wrappers. Pin it on the smokers, they will pay for it. We might as well we pay for most cancer research now and now my state they(R.I.) want to throw another dollar per pack to go towards childrens healthcare or something along those lines in Rhode Island. What the hell sense does that make? It has nothing to do with smokers illnesses, just another way to screw us.

If its too expensive, why don't you quit and take up meditation? It is VERY relaxing, and can be effective even if only done for a few minutes. Best of all, ITS FREE!

The issue is not the consumer. The issue is that the product is "bad" enough to allow multi-million dollar lawsuits against the maker but not "bad" enough to make illegal.
