Smoke Break Saves Woman From Falling Tree
AP
ROCK HILL, S.C. (April 18) - Smoking just might have saved Brenda Comers' life.

She said she had just finished washing dishes Monday and stepped outside to smoke a cigarette when an 80-foot oak tree crashed through her roof, landing across the sink where she had been standing just seconds before.

"Honey, I know you fuss at me for smoking," Comers said she told her husband. "But today it saved my life."

The tree, felled by strong wind, also missed the couple's adult daughter, who was at the other end of the house.

The family's insurance agent said they could not live there after the tree cut the kitchen and living room in half, scattering the contents of the kitchen cabinets.

"I looked down and saw a bottle with two pills," Comers said. "I thought, 'Well, I have a headache, and there's two Excedrin."

a part of me really wished you would've left the topic title ambiguous and just made it say: "smoking saves!" ;)

Imagine if she went to the bathroom instead... unfortunately, the person who died in the Hold Your Wee For A Wii would've been too late to see that going to the bathroom saves lives! :p

oh, you dont need to warn me about being careful about wishes. just a friendly reminder to any youngsters out there; make sure you go through puberty first before wishing to stay young forever while blowing out candles on your 12th birthday. it just makes things awkward later on in life.

great thread title btw!

The wind was so strong it pushed over a tree, but she was going to try and smoke outside anyway?

Never underestimate the determination of a smoker.

heh....heard about this on the radio this morn. Didn't know it'd be anything more than local news (this wasn't too far away from me.).

At least it's not news about a school shooting, right?

Yeah, I know. My brother is a city cop and he asked to work at the local high school. He said the incidents of bomb threats have gone up since the VT shooting. :(

There is always a rash of scares and a few copycats after one of these. Kinda sucks.
