Smoking Question - Quit smoking 1.5 years ago

I was smoking for around 10 years, someitmes I was a moderate smoker and sometimes I was a chain smoker. about a year and a half ago I went cold turkey and didnt smoke at all for more than a year. Starting a few months back i became friends with this guy from work and have been smoking occationally - lets say once every 2 weeks or so...
Is it dangerous for me - is it a beginning for starting to smoke again? or is this pretty harmless thing.. as long as I dont increase the frequency? Or I shouldnt touch it at all ?

Get out of denial and simply stop smoking. If you went with no smokes for over a year there is no reason EVER to smoke again. You don't need to smoke because someone else in the room is smoking. The biggest problem with what you are doing is one extremely stressful situation could make you a smoker again.

d00d, cigs are teh azz. Seriously better to just stay off them for so many reasons.

I don't know you, but I'd hate to ever hear you had something like lung cancer or some breathing/heart disorder.

That is an extensive training period. Stop. One cig can reactivate your habit and you'll have to go through the unpleasant withdrawal phase again.

I quit after 15 years of smoking and have not had a cigarette since that time. I have smoked cigars but never felt the pressure to have one the way I did with cigarettes I guess because there is no inhaling involved. I guess it really all depends on your willpower and control.

Don't. Just don't. Why even take the risk? It is unnecessary. You stand nothing to gain by trying to control the frequency of your smoking and much much more to lose once you fail. And you most likely will fail eventually if you keep it up. Just stop. You are starting down a slippery slope.

Just keep it under control. I quit a few months ago, but still have a smoke every couple of weeks. Just monitor it and make sure it isn't increasing. There's no reason you shouldn't allow yourself the pleasure of an occasional smoke. FWIW, there is no strong link between casual smoking and cancer or heart disease. However there is a strong link between casual smoking and tobacco addiction, so you must keep it under control.

u just puff cigars... no inhaling? eh... whats the point

They say that addiction never really leaves a person.
It just goes dormant.

Never been hooked on the nicotine my friend, but I seriously would not even risk it.

listen man. last golf season i was having a couple beers after each 18 and my friends were smoking. i had been a smoker in the past and before long i was accepting smokes and buying packs. i smoked all summer long only to quit in October again. i wonder how many years i shaved off my life just for that... not to mention risking lung cancer even decades after quitting!

don't do it man, resist the urge.

If you still smoke sometimes then you didn't really quit now did you? Denial much?

You're not supposed to inhale cigar smoke.

You're not supposed to inhale cigar smoke.

Don't worry, he's probably never had one let alone old enough to buy one for himself.

And OP: Do you even need to ask? You should know the answer to this question, and if you don't, you're in denial. If you couldn't control yourself previously and let it turn into an "addiction," then things haven't magically changed.

..knowledge is power. Do some google research on "tobacco products of combustion" and find out what's going on when tobacco combustion occurs. Great reading if you like science stuff and it'll make a quitter out of ya once and for all.

Cigarettes are an amazing thing. You quit after 10 years? That is awesome. Don't go back to them. If you have the will power to stay away for over an year, you can do it for your life.

But go back to them (like I always end up doing) and you will be pulled in by the wonderful, calm serenity a cigarette can bring to a bad day.
