Smoking Near Apple Computers Creates Biohazard, Voids Warranty

Unless you've just arrived in 2009 on a time machine, you know that smoking isn't good for you. Did you know, that smoking isn't good for your computer, either? It's true, at least according to Apple.

Two readers in different parts of the country claim that their Applecare warranties were voided due to secondhand smoke. Both readers appealed their cases up to the office of God Steve Jobs himself. Both lost.

From the article:
the computer is beyond economical repair due to tar from cigarette smoke! She said the hard drive is about to fail, the optical drive has failed and it isn't feasible to repair the computer under the warranty. This computer is less than 2 years old! Only one person in my household smokes - one 21 year old college student. She said that I can get it repaired elsewhere at my expense. I asked why my warranty didn't cover the repair and was told it's an OSHA violation.

I would agree with them if the pc looks like this (actual pic of a PC after 5 years around a smoker):

Ewww lol. My cat would be all over that. It's like cat nip for her.

I actually had to refuse a PC once as someone brought it and the second I powered it on my whole room smelled like a sulphur processing plant. It was beyond the typical cig smell (which I find is not THAT bad). I called him up and said I could not reproduce the issue they brought it for lol.

When I worked at the tech bench at best buy in high school I saw tons of that crap.

Some lady had dogs with extremely long human-like hair.. The hair would get all inside of her computer, wrapped up in the fans and all inside the power supply. Nasty.

Smokers were the worst though, and I wouldn't touch their computers. Some were as bad as that pic - it doesn't explain in detail how the yellow nastiness is all sticky and disgusting... ugh.

Another one - someone brought in a PC literally INFESTED with roaches. I wasn't there, but apparently when they set it down 2-3 roaches scurried out. The idiot tech still allowed it to be dropped off - our manager bagged it up and scolded the kid..

After taking a close look at that pic I have definitely seen worse. The problem with cigarette smoke/tar is that it makes a stick surface for dust to adhere to.

I can understand why Apple would send it back..
