I needed to buy Adobe Flash for a course I am in and was linked to JourneyEd.com to purchase the software from my school's website.

I was able to pick up the Adobe CS4 Master Collection for only $500. You will likely need to go through your school's bookstore website to get the blowout deal as it doesn't show up otherwise. The same collection can be had for around $1000 going directly to their site.

This collection normally retails for $2500.

Keep in mind, this deal is only for students. You have to prove you are a student by faxing over a copy of your student ID and current course schedule.

It is for the Master Collection retail version from what I have been told. Here is what their websites lists:

What's inside:

* Adobe InDesign CS4
* Adobe Photoshop Extended CS4
* Adobe Illustrator CS4
* Adobe Acrobat Pro 9
* Adobe Flash Pro CS4
* Adobe Dreamweaver CS4
* Adobe Fireworks CS4
* Adobe Contribute CS4
* Adobe After Effects CS4
* Adobe Premiere Pro CS4
* Soundbooth CS4
* Adobe OnLocation CS4
* Encore CS4
* Adobe Bridge CS4
* Adobe Device Central CS4 - Dynamic Link
* Adobe Version Cue CS4

$500 is hot? Sorry, I'm not knocking on the deal at all as it IS hot down from 2500... I'm just dumbfounded by how expensive adobe crap is.

You can't even get Photoshop for less than $500...it's on sale at Amazon for $654.99 right now, though! 😀

This is insanely hot for anyone who needs to work with these products on a day to day basis. $2500 is nothing for tools you use every day to make a living. I've used adobe products all my life for my work and I've never seen the master collection for less then $1500 even for students. Look at all the software you are getting. Even at full price its like $200 per industry standard, top of the line software. Students usually have a hard time paying for this. Now at $500 for everything, it's so much more feasible.

If anyone wants this who is not a student, I am willing to help out. I've already got the CS3 master collection and probably won't be buying this one, but am a student until May.

What school?

Can you provide a link to your school just so I could see what it looks like?

I don't think my small school has this available :[

Not that anybody really probably cares, but academic software isn't licensed for commercial use. It's the same exact program but its use implies it's for educational/non-commercial use. I personally don't care what people use it for, but if you are a business owner thinking of using this for yourself, you should at least be aware that it's illegal to use. Again IDC if you do it or not, just an FYI 🙂

Every once in a while, Adobe offers Photoshop for $299 for Elements owners.

It expensive because it is the best (generally ). I use photoshop cs3 extensively. flash is so entrenched in the web and thats adobe. same with PDF though other PDF creaters are pretty good.

It may seem expensive but when you do it for work and it generates income, the value you get makes $2.5k reasonable. Just look at other software licensing like crystal reports, monarch, etc or even enterprise software like SAP or Microsoft dynamics. Pretty soon the Adobe Suite is one of your cheaper licenses.

amen brotha.

I am a big open source nut but I am also a license maniac. I would love to get legit retail versions for twice this price. I hope those who are students jump on this. Dont pirate quality software! feel free to pirate the crap software though, dont support bad software! support good software!

In the past, all of the student versions of Adobe products are flagged as such when launching the software as well as on the packaging. Although it may not be the case in this instance, these probably are the student versions, thus it's against Adobe's terms of use to use them for commercial projects. Granted, it's not the same as outright pirating the software, but technically still not legal for use on commercial projects.

I agree that the Adobe software is sold at a "student" price but as far as I have been told (by JourneyEd and Adobe) the software is exactly the same as their retail versions.

Part of the student license agreement is that you cannot use it for commercial purposes. That isn't a problem in my case because I am just going to be using it for personal use.

Besides being sold at a student price, the packaging and welcome screen when opening the program state that it's a student version. Good deal for students or others where that doesn't matter.

Another distinction between Student and Commercial versions is that in the past Adobe has not allowed software licensed as "Student" versions to get upgrade discounts toward future new releases.

They logically presume that one is only a student for a few years, so when the next major upgrade comes along you are expected to buy the commercial versions at regular cost.

Exception would be in a case where a high school student got the discount on CS3, then in college got the discount on CS4, and so on while still a legit student, but no upgrade discounts on full versions.

>>>>

Edit: Turns out that I was only half correct. Students can keep buying new versions at student discount rate while still a student (limit 1 copy/set per version per student), but apparently CAN use the student version to upgrade to a commercial version at the upgrade rate rather than full retail $.

Next post adds better info....

According to this...

Q: Can software purchased through the Adobe Student Licensing Option be upgraded?
A: Yes. Students are eligible to purchase the commercial upgrade for the product upon graduation.
If they are still students, they must also purchase a separate copy of the new product through
the Adobe Student Licensing Option.

NO shite. I got the production package (Premiere, AE, Encore, the...audio one, and CS) several years ago for about $500 with education pricing and it was an incredible deal.

Of course, this blows that out of the water.

When you consider The type of work this software is capable of and the industries that demand this type of work and the type of money one can pull in, the prices are indeed legit.

Got mine today! Sure enough it has "Student" on the outside but the installed programs are exactly the same as the retail versions.

Not too shabby for $550 delivered.
