Nice DVD/decoder package from buy.com for $125.95. Add a DVD or something to bring the cost to $150+ to apply the new $30 off $150 coupon. Works out to $95.95 plus tax (if applicable) and shipping for the DVD package (sort of).

See the 12X Encore at buy.com here

Get the coupon here

Aren't I nice...;)

Don't you think it's about time they get a new decoder card? The Dxr3's been around for quite a while (Hollywood+ in disguise)...

Surely technology has advanced some in the past two years!!!???

They've got these at amazon.com for about the same price but,
alas, no coupons (I think). Plan to use my $25 GC and $20 promo
I got as their apology for poor service on an item I ordered
and returned. No tax, too. Shipping only $7.44...

Anyone know of a review for this product?

Thanks!;):D

Aren't those Creative/Panasonic DVD drives the ones that can't read a lot of CDRs?

Good post. Finally broke down and picked up one of these a couple of weeks ago at buy.com with $30 off $150 coupon and free shipping. I added a stick of Crucial 64MB PC100 CL2 ram (CT8M64S4D8E) for $30.95 which brought it over the $150.

$126 is a good price for the DVD kit (sold for over $200 at Onvia) and the RAM works out to be less than $1.

I have the same kit except with a 6x DVD drive and it's read everything I've thrown at it short of vinyl LPs... FWIW.

Well...ya know:eek:...my calculus is getting kind of rusty...

No actually...I meant to post it that way. I was in a hurry to get out the door to play some basketball and forgot to to put the part about adding a DVD or something to bring the cost $150+. I shall now edit my original post.

I am sofa king we todd did...(just say it out loud and you'll know what I mean)

bump for a sweet deal. I have been using this combo for some time now and it reads everything I throw at it. its audio rip speed is not that great but thats my only problem with it.
the beta drivers wouldn't work for Windows 2000, but since its the same card as the hollywood + you can use those instead. Ive been using the hollywood win2k drivers with this combo and have had no problems playing DVDs with it. I actually think the Hollywood drivers are better/more stable than the creative ones.

Roger that. RealMagic updates their drivers more diligently that Creative Labs. Search around on the net for a patch that will allow you to install RealMagic H+ drivers on your Dxr3 for added stability. As for someone saying that this product was obsolete, there's not that much more you can do with it :) It plays DVDs on the TV beautifully, outputs digital audio to a 5.1 reciever, etc. I'm quite happy with it.

One thing that needs to be done is the passthrough needs to be improved greatly or even better, they need to have a version that passes the signal through the PCI bus, like some of the old 3d cards.
