Smokes & Chew - War

I'm putting together a package to sent to a guy I know over in Kuwait/Iraq.

I'm going to put some cigarettes and chewing tobacco in the package (not necessarily for my friend, but for his buddies). I don't support smoking and chewing, but if the soldiers are already hooked, I don't want them suffering withdrawl in the middle of a war. (I understand the guys in Iraq now who are desparate for smokes will not be receiving packages for a while.)

I know nothing about tobacco. Please advise what brand of product would appeal to U.S. Marines.

For chew, Skoal and Copenhagen are pretty popular brands. It probably doesn't matter, though...they all have nicotine in them.

Camel filters and Marlboro reds are probably a good choice to get a good majority of people. You can probably throw some menthols and maybe some lights in there too depending on how many you were planning on sending.

I was at the store about to buy the smokes when the guy told me that the packages are screened and smokes taken, at least in the Army.

Anyone got any word on this?

All the Marines I trained with smoked Marlboro Lights or Newports. Marlboro Lights are a good "anyone can smoke 'em" brand, and for the people desperate for menthol, Newports are the brand of choice.

Throw in a few packages of Redman chewing tobacco, and for dip Copenhagen or Skoal (fine cut, not long cut) are the 2 choices to go for.

Good luck even getting this through. They don't want every day citizens sending these packages directly to the Armed Forces due to the security concerns. Everything I've seen recommends people donating to a charity who does the care package thing.
