ok, i've had a 64mb radeon ddr vivo and smoke murdered my fps. then i had a v3 2000 it literally laughed in the face of smoke. so i went and got a v5 5500 assuming it would laugh at smoke also. wrong. though smoke does not murder my fps on the v5... i still see my fps drop by 50%. with the v3... i can honestly say my fps was not affected. through all this, i kept my smoke settings normal. i didn't cheat and make the smoke look like lego blocks (via the config.cfg). now for those of you who play CS... how does smoke affect your fps, and what video card are you using? can you also lemme know what driver you are using? thanx :)

P.S. - i have a radeon 8500 coming in monday... will that get raped by smoke too?

Cs is my middle name and i come to save u!! LOL hahah anyway, i have a geforce 2 gts.. 32 meg... NO PROB w. smoke.. u can have 50 smokes and i have no prob.. make sure your VSYNC is OFF on your vid card setting.... also type fps_max 100 in console... and make sure you are using a good driver.... radeon 8500 will rape the smoke.... but they also have driver issues... but CS is NOT A GRAPHIC intesive game... only limited to 100 FPS.... any vid card better than voodoo 3 will BE MORE THAN FINE.

i know that many ppl with the original radeon series of card had serious issues with smoke/fog in many games besides CS too. i read somewhere that gf2 cards had problems with smoke as well, but new drivers helped (not totally resolved). then when the gf3 came out... seemed like no one was complaining much about smoke anymore. so far, i've had a 64mb radeon, v5, and v3... only the v3 was not affected by smoke. i'm just trying to get a better idea of which video cards to avoid in future recommendations/purchases. :)

Well i own a radeon32MB DDR and a GeForce3 Ti450.. now with my radeon 32MB DDR my system would chug along.. although i did get used to it the framerates dropped pretty hard in smoke.. with my Ti450(Ti200 Gainward) it would still lag just a tad if my screen was full of smoke but no where near what it would with my radeon.. i believe its just bad coding and even some powerhouse cards have a hard time dealing with smoke.. throw two smoke nades and i promise ur framerates will drop a good deal ;).

I have an ASUS V7700 GF2 GTS 32MB, and I'm fine with smoke...even with max_fps I still manage to get about 72 fps.
