I am looking at getting a new handgun and was wondering if anyone has this model or any of the Sigma models from Smith and Wesson?

Good gun?

Unless you are getting a really good deal on it just buy a Glock (which the Sigma basically is).

I had one and it stopped being fun shooting it. It was also prone to stove piping the ejected brass. I know it wasn't due to poor technique, because non of my other guns had this issue.

I have this exact one. After close to 5000 rds put through it, I have never had a problem. Not a single FTE FTL or FTF. My only complaint is the heavy trigger pull, but a good gunsmith can knock it down a few lbs if you want.

That's what I love about the Glock. Light easy trigger pull, very accurate and it never fails to feed.

I fired this & the 9mm version... they had a heavy trigger pull & effected my aim. I could probably get used to it... but I decided to get the Springfield XD-45 instead & I love it.

I wouldn't call 5.5 lbs light. That's assuming you haven't changed the firing pin spring or the connector though.

I would compared to most double action revolvers or semi-automatic handguns. Most of them weigh in at about 12 lbs.

Okay, 2.5-3 lbs is light. Still, I was comparing it to most double action pulls.

That's why I roll single action only (and everyone else should too).

I don't own any 1911s (yet), but regardless here's my application to the single action army.

I have a Colt Officer's Model Series 80 and a Para-Ordnance LDA 7.45.

I also have a Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum model 629 with 8" barrel.

If those are the only ones you handle when you're naked, you're okay in my book. :lips:

I've never fired the Sigma but I do have a Smith and Wesson M&P .40 and I love that gun. Not as much as my Kimber but I love it all the same.

I was just going to keep quiet, but at least someone else chimed in. Between the first Sigmas and a 5906, I can't say I will ever really look at S&W autos again.

Though I may get a 1006 if I can ever find one.

Dont hate on the M&P's just because of the sigma's. The M&P series are outstanding handguns.

Wow this thread was brought back from the dead. For what its worth, my Sigma is now in the hands of a new owner. No reason specifically, but I just wanted to move on to something new. So I picked up a Romanian AK and a Walther G22. I plan to replace the Sigma with a Glock 27.

And other than the poor ergonomics, You are good to go. Glocks are just one type of gun, there are other good things out there.

Let me start with saying I've never had an issue with my G27 (.40, compact). I do own the compact but dislike the full size versions. It feels like the angle of the grip is wrong.

I have a 2nd gen Sigma .40. Its a great shooter, no feed issues and no trigger complaints. The ergonomics are fine, seriously no complaints. I'll guess I've got 3K rounds through this gun.

I recently picked up a SW9VE. The 8lbs trigger pull is a bit rough but I haven't seen other issues. Only have about 600 rounds through it.

I have seen glocks dirty enough to misfeed, so its not like that can't happen. Last year a buddy and I were shooting weekly and it was some time between cleanings. My .45 colt ept going and his glock stopped working. :D He got the last laugh though, once I cleaned my .45 I couldn't shoot it worth a damn. :D

I'm still pretty pissed @ S&W for that weapon, it had a lot of failure to feeds with any ammo I tried, I never ever ran an entire clip through that gun without a FTF, had it to a S&W certified gunsmith multiple times, and he even gave up. I sold it & bought a Glock.

I've never had a minute's problem with the Glock and have modded it a bit with no problems.
