Smilies affecting text spacing

I tried to search and I didn't see this posted.
I don't know if it's just me, but lines of text with smilies in them seem to take up more room than those without, making the spacing uneven.

Is it possible to make the spacing stay consistent? I think it really helps readability.

It's not something that could be easily fixed.

The smilies are a fixed pixel width and height, whereas fonts are not. If you want the spacing to work properly, adjust your font size so that it matches the height of a pixel.

Even that would not be perfect, though, as the E at the beginning of this sentence is taller than the . at the end.

Right, I know why it happens (and it's always been that way), I was just seeing if there was any way to fix it. I guess making the smilies smaller or having a lot of space between all lines of text (too much, perhaps) would be the only solutions, neither of which is probably feasible. 🙁 I don't really want to use a huge font.

Oh well, just thought I'd run it up the flagpole and see who saluted. 🙂
