I smelt a burning smell then my monitor turned off. If I shut it off then back on it displays an image for like 2 seconds then goes back off. Buy new monitor?

Your nose knows so follow it. If you definitely detect a burned smell from the vents on your monitor then you've answered your own question. On the other hand, if the monitor smells OK you better open your case, look around, and do some sniffing there.

Electronics run on smoke; once you let the smoke out they don't work any more. Buy another.
