Smearing grease while seating HSF

Here is an interesting question. The 4 round rubber thingies on the cpu keep the heatsink from touching the core until pressure is exerted onto the hsf. So, Can I assume that if I use a very thin layer or thermal grease that if the HSF isn't pressed down at all, but is just resting on the 4 rubber things that the grease won't be disturbed? The reason I ask is because when I was putting on my new HSF it did move around a little on the rubber things before I actually put any pressure on it to seat it. So I wonder if I smeared the grease at all doing that?

If no pressure is applies, and the HSF is just resting on the rubber feet, the core and grease should not have been disturbed. I'v put my HSF on without pressure to see the positioning and taken it off and there was not grease on the sink.
