Hi there...

I have owned an SMC Barricade Wireless router model SMC7004AWBR since Christmas 2001 and it has been working great, but today it just all of a sudden stopped allowing access to the web interface and does not allow me to use the Internet through my DSL modem. I have cycled the power, reset it (many, many times!), powered all computers off, reconnected all cables and the list goes on. I think I've tried almost everything there is to try.

Now, the strange thing is, it still works as a switch/hub as I can access other computers on the LAN (both wired and wireless) through the router, but I can't ping the router or access the web admin interface or get to the 'net through it.

Is it dead? I've only had it 3 months and only hooked it up 2 months ago, so it's still very new! If it is dead, what do you recommend? It was a Christmas gift and was ordered online, possibly from Amazon.com but I'm not really sure.

Suggestions are much appreciated!!! :D

Thanks!

i think someone was sayin it was something defective inside the router, like all the sudden the router just died, with all the light on or something .. they called SMC and get a replacement .. somethign liek that..

If you can't even get to the system management page, that's not a good sign. You might want to try calling SMC tech support. If possible, go to their website and download the most recent firmware (1.93s, I think, but I'm not sure) and see if you can flash the unit.

It's sounding like quality control is slipping. That's too bad; I've been using this same model for a year now with no problems at all.

Good luck.

To echo chiper00 suggestion.

Go to SMC support:
SMC Wireless Drivers.

Download the Zip version: 7004AWBR_FW_194a2.zip

Unzip, and use the EXE file (the EXE file should flash the firmware without the need to log to the Barricade menu).

Switch off the Barricade after the flash done wait 30sec, and switch on, if it does not work call SMC.

Also make sure that your ISP hasn't changed ip addresses on you. If it has you will need to reconfigure your router and set it to dynamic.
I just went thru that this weekend with my ISP.

Thanks for the help guys! I called tech support and they got me back up. For some reason the router must have decided to just randomly reset itself to default settings while I was eating lunch and the reason I could not get back into it was due to the fact that I like to have my network on the 192.168.1.xxx IP range and the default is 192.168.2.xxx, so that of course did not allow me to use the net or login to the router without changing to that IP range.

Thanks again! I appreciate your help! :D
